Million Dollar Baby and American sniper
Jelínek, Martin ; ŠERÝ, Ladislav (advisor) ; Poláček, Vít (referee)
This diploma thesis analyses two films by Clint Eastwood Million Dollar Baby and American Sniper. Its focus is aimed at the formal storytelling aspects, structure of the storyline and plot devices in the screenplays. The first film is an example of misusing these plot devices; the theme being euthanasia remains irrelevant from the viewers perspective although it was meant to resonate strongly at first. Analysis of the second film shows us the discrepancy of what the film "wanted" to be and the actual message it implicitly presents to the audience. Instead of being an objective reflection of the real events (in this case the war in Iraq) it is on purpose misleading in presenting of commonly known facts and hence it becomes propaganda. The analysis of the storytelling devices in this thesis can be also applied on different films and cinema in general.
Film and historiography
Poláček, Vít ; Dodova, Borjana (advisor) ; MRAVCOVÁ, Marie (referee)
Michael Haneke´s The White Ribbon, Bertrand Bonello´s L´Apollonide, The Girl with a Pearl earring by Peter Webber or The Silence of Joan by Philippe Ramos are European arthouse films, which could be seen as films based on history or historical events. In compare with mainstream films all these authors draws inspiration from changes in historiography in last fifty years to make their fictional worlds more credible. Except of concrete descriptions of their methods the thesis includes also the reflection of the audience perception of films based on historical events or the willingness of the audience to believe the presented image of history.
The relationship between cognitive agility, social intelligence and taste of the spectator
Zapletal, Vít ; Poláček, Vít (advisor) ; BLAŽÍČEK, Martin (referee)
The social inteligence, cognitive agility and universally education of a concrete spectator can be the most important aspect, which has an influence on his final evaluation and process of perception. The strong uncompatibility between the type of spectator´s perception and structure of a movie is often source of desorientation and rejection, especially in case of modernist cinema.

This thesis is attempting on untraditional view on history of childhood in aristocracy through the point of view of their children. There are used various sources like memoirs, correspondence, but also childish drawings or narration of the youngest daughter of Prince Johann Schönburg-Hartenstein, Sophie Carillo. For the education of noble children, there was typical to live in history, the care of tutors and governesses, bringing up to duties, the veneration of old traditions or periodical travelling.
