The subject of this bachelor thesis is to translate a selected excerpt from the third chapter of the book English History Made Brief, Irreverent, and Pleasurable by the American historian Lacey Baldwin Smith. The first part of this thesis consists of the translation itself. The selected excerpt comes from the first half of the third chapter entitled History Worth Remembering (to 1485), and introduces the English history from the first settlement of the island to the Wars of the Roses, which gave rise to a new dynastic house and marked a new era for the island. The second part of this thesis includes an analysis of the source text in terms of the extra- and intra-textual factors, a description of the selected translation method, and an analysis of the selected translation problems and their solution, including the translation shifts.

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to provide a Czech translation of selected excerpts from the scientific book Animals in Our Midst: The Challenges of Co-existing with Animals in the Anthropocene, which was written by Bernice Bovenkerk and Jozef Keulartz in cooperation with several other scholars from the Wageningen University, Radboud University Nijmegen, Michigan State University, and others. This thesis consists of two parts. The first part contains a Czech translation of an extract from Chapter 14: The Decisions of Wannabe Dog Keepers in The Netherlands written by Susan Ophorst and Bernice Bovenkerk. The second part presents a commentary on the translation, which focuses on analysing the source text and addresses problematic parts and translation shifts that arose as a result of the translation process.

This bachelor's thesis consists of two parts: a translation of twenty standard pages from the book Turning the Tide on Plastic: How Humanity (And You) Can Make Our Globe Clean Again and a commentary. A popular science text concerned with the plastic pandemic and helping readers reduce their plastic footprint, the book was written by British journalist and environmentalist Lucy Siegle and published by The Orion Publishing Group in 2018. The thesis commentary includes: an analysis of the source text that specifically addresses extratextual and intratextual factors (using Christiane Nord's model); the method of translation; the stated target communicative situation; a typology of translation problems; a description of the chosen translation solutions on both the lexical and syntactical level; shifts of expression within the translation; a typology of translation shifts and translation procedures. Czech Wikipedia: A Translation Project

The master's thesis "Czech Wikipedia: A Translation Project" examines the environment available for translators on Czech Wikipedia. It concentrates on the description of the rules and limitations regarding translation on Wikiepdia and its specifics. Furthermore, the actual process of translation is examined. Translation quality is also the subject to research. The theorethical bases for the thesis are mainly the manipulation theory (André Lefevere) and the field theory by Pierre Bourdieu will be used.
