Aspects of education of those adults, who are ending their productive period of life

This essay contains summation of basic scientific opinions related to persons older than 50 years who are still employed. The introductory chapter is being dedicated to demography analysis, further chapters deal with charakteristics of this period of life seen from psychological, social and neurobiological aspects. Facts, mentioned in this chapter, will be given into connection with possibilities and attitude shown by the target group toward education. Arguments are chosen with the purpose to vindicate needs of continuous education of this generation and refutation of their certain intellectual stereotypes, as well as intellectual stereotypes shown by the society. Next part is discussing Czech Republic's official attidude toward older adulť s education expres sed in documents of Ministry of Education, Y outh and Sports and Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. The last chapters show, in what way are mentioned attitudes implemented into real life, further, comparison with EU is mentioned as well as own research targeted on supply of education programs (language education, PC skills, managements skills) tailored for older persons.
Older adults motivation to participate in lifelong learning

The thesis is primarily focused on exploring aspects of older adults' motivation to participate in education, wherein the older adults are defined as a generation older than 50 years in age, which is still economically active. The first section of the thesis contains a basic summary of available scientific perspectives on older adults. The target group is characterized from the psychological, neurobiological, sociological and professional vantage points. In these various individual fields an emphasis is placed on the ability to learn new things. The next section summarizes the current societal requirements concerning the necessity of education for this generation as expressed in official political documents. The emphasis is given to the Czech environment and to evaluation whether the target group is seen as a specific entity in these documents or not. In the second half of the thesis I describe the current perspectives regarding motivation from the general, psychological point of view as well as motivation in education. I also make comparisons with other countries that have been able to stimulate their older adults with specific programs and I propose some ideas that could be potentially implemented in our country.
