Main events of the period of dissolution of the Soviet Union in Czech media
Mališová, Klára ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Just, Petr (referee)
This thesis deals with how three chosen Czech daily newspapers - Rudé právo, Mladá fronta (later Mladá fronta DNES) and Lidové noviny - wrote about significant events that took place in the union republics during the last three years of the Soviet Union's existence (1989-1991). It specifically focuses on those events through which the republics were trying to regain freedom and independence for themselves - either through protests, or in a political matter. The thesis also addresses events that were somehow groundbreaking or during which ordinary people, who went to the streets to express their dissaproval of current political situation or to defend legally elected bodies, lost their lives. The thesis uses qualitative analysis to find out if there was a difference in how these three selected Czech newspapers wrote about such events in the context of changes that occured in the Czech political and media system, and if each own coverage somehow evolved.
"We were writing between the lines" (TV portrait - journalist Marta Bystrovová)
Mališová, Klára ; Šobr, Michal (advisor) ; Osvaldová, Barbora (referee)

The editorial office of this journal was situated at Wenceslas Square and because of that, Marta Bystrovová became a direct witness of the milestones in the history of Czechoslovakia (such as 1968 and 1989). Despite the press oppression, she did not hesitate to honestly inform about the events. Therefore the documentary is trying to show how it all influenced her opinions and beliefs. It is also demonstrating that there are ordinary people with extraordinary life story, whom nobody is saying ‚thanks' to, but they undoubtedly contributed to the evolvement of our society. The theoretical part adds facts to the practical one. First of all, it introduces Svobodné slovo, then, in comparison with Rudé právo, it focuses on what were the differences between these two journals and what was the role of Svobodné slovo, which was not, unlike from Rudé právo, under straight control of the leading Communist party, and therefore was trying to inform honestly about what was happening. The following chapter is about portraits in Svobodné slovo,...
