Agression in institutions for people with intellectual disability

Tle topic of aggression in institutions for the people with intellectual disability is traditionally perceived as an exclusive problem of people with disability. The study aims to emphasize that more complex perspective on this problem is needed. Such perspective should include not only dispositions of people with intellectual disability but also characteristics of institutions and of professionals providing care. Theoretical overview summerizes hypothetic sources of aggressive behavior of clients and professionals. The research focuses on the professional's attribution of aggressive behavior. Results show that professionals are most likely to make the fundamental attribution error in their appraisal of the aggressive behavior. The study points out certain direction for following work on the improving quality of the care offered in institutions for people with intellectual disability.
