Kuchařová, Anna ; Groman, Martin (advisor) ; Bednařík, Petr (referee)
This Bachelor thesis is devoted to Czechoslovakian broadcast media after Jan Palach's self- immolation in 1969. It describes the media during 60's, especially during the important historical period of Prague Spring, The Warsaw Pact invasion, and at this time the forthcoming normalisation. Therefore, a lot of changes in the media had happened throughout this period of time. Namely, Freedom of Speech to the re-implementation of censorship which, the media tried to slow down. This approach was mainly seen when visualising Jan Palach's self-immolation to the general public. His act has become as a symbol of a freer journalist expression ever since. The practical part of this thesis is dedicated to a podcast about reporting by Czechoslovakian media about Jan Palach's death by suicide and his funeral. The podcast is based on the interview with historian Petr Blažek from the 'Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes, created by the author of this Bachelor thesis and authenticated records from Czech Television and Czech Radio archives which were available from this era. The podcast tracks the content of what the Czechoslovakian media broadcasted during this time.
