Utilization of Elkonin's method for children with auditory impairment

The Bachelor thesis is related to special education. The theme of the Bachelor thesis is the development of phonemic awareness in children with auditory impairment using the language skills training by D. B. Elkonin. The aim of the work is to present the use of the method and the way of working during the training session. It also presents methodology and differences in its application in children with auditory impairment. The work is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is dedicated to the theoretical background in speech development and language skills of a child. The second chapter analyses the issue of hearing loss and auditory disability. One part of the chapter deals with the influence of auditory impairment in the development of speech and communication skills. The third chapter summarizes the findings related to phonemic awareness. It includes the definition of related concepts and describes the importance of phonemic awareness. The chapter also introduces methods of language skills training presented by D. B. Elkonin. The fourth chapter reports on five cases of children with auditory impairment and their progress in phonemic awareness.
