The fatherhood in novels of Milan Kundera
Labudová, Zuzana ; Knotková - Čapková, Blanka (advisor) ; Kalnická, Zdeňka (referee)
This thesis discusses the concept of fatherhood in the novels of Milan Kundera. The first part of the analysis focuses on initiation rituals leadings to the construction of the masculine identity and the future quality fatherhood; this thesis discusses unwanted fatherhood, the phenomenon of the missing father and the ethical aspects of the (non)fatherhood and the theme of fatherhood as a coming to terms with the world. I concentrate on the basic models od fatherhood in Kundera's novels, which bear a resemblance to archetypes of father. But it is less a typical archetypes analysis than a interpretative analysis combined with a resisting reading. This thesis compares traditional concepts with concepts od modern (feminist) science and applies it to Kundera's characters.
Gender relationships in a novel Life is elsewhere by Milan Kundera
Horčičková, Aneta ; Knotková - Čapková, Blanka (advisor) ; Kalnická, Zdeňka (referee)
This thesis discusses gender relationships in the novel Life is elsewhere by Milan Kundera. The first part of the analysis focuses on construction of motherhood and fatherhood, from which eventually results the positive/negative relationships of the child to the parents and on which we can also see the organization of the parenting practice itself. The second part is devoted to the key issue of the mother - son interactions, and therefore it analyzes the psychoanalytic concept of the Oedipal complex and difficulties associated with it, such as the son's dependence on the dominant mother who in addition fully replaces the absent father. I especially concentrate on the effort of the son to free himself from this dependence and on his consequent search for male identity. Methodologically, my text is designed as a combination of archetypal analysis with an interpretative or conceptual analysis, stemming from the approach of the so called resisting reading. This thesis compares traditional concepts with the feminist ones and applies them on the characters of Kundera's novel. Key words: gender relationships, psychoanalysis, archetypes, dominant mother, male identity.
Archeology of a woman poet. On the gender dynamic of literary situations
Kalivodová, Eva ; Heczková, Libuše (advisor) ; Kalnická, Zdeňka (referee) ; Merhaut, Luboš (referee)
The dissertation combines two threads of argumentation. One is represented by the exploration of the gender dynamic in several literary situations of the 19th and early 20th centuries. The gender dynamic comprises, in the case of this research, notions of mutuality and interrelatedness of men's and women's cultural values; the always present, but historically changing reality of gender norms in society and culture, and in literature itself; the ways in which individuals cope with these norms. Especially the need to demolish the norms on the side of creative women and their eventual literary achievements are focused by single chapters of the dissertation. The first one rethinks the work of Elizabeth Barrett Browning and ~xplains why it meant a major gendered cultural and literary tum in the English-speaking world in (roughly) mid-19th century. Barrett-Browning's literary accomplishment winning immediate recognition - which has been largely veiled or dismissed by ideologies of 20th century literary histories - is explicated with the help of concepts of the reception theory developed by Hans Robert Jauss. The second chapter switches its focus from the contexts of Barrett-Browning's life and work and her primary reception to her later Czech reception. It brings forward the fact that at the beginning of the 20th...
The Gender Analysis of Žítkovské bohyně
Holinková, Lucie ; Knotková - Čapková, Blanka (advisor) ; Kalnická, Zdeňka (referee)
This thesis constitutes the gender analysis of the Kateřina Tučková's work Žítkovské bohyně. The methodological and theoretical part defends feminist literary criticism as a legitimate approach to the text, represents a method of feminine writing and reading and examines the question of literary canon. Besides it analyses archetypes, which are demonstrated with using classical feminist texts, which depict typological attributes of characters as well as some model situations of the novel. The characters are related to archetype of witch, Demeter narrative and seductress, which all are interdependent. Except for archetypes, the thesis also discusses the issue of stereotypical display of feminity and masculinity, spirituality connected with women characters, interprets nature of myths and reflects mutual relationship among characters of the novel in the gender system. The proper analysis of female and male characters focuses on the main female characters, which are influenced by male partners and theme of the curse, which is the key for this analysis.

Křížková, Ivana ; Kobová, Ĺubica (advisor) ; Kalnická, Zdeňka (referee)
My thesis is concerned with the analysis of philosopher Marie Štechová. Based to the previous thesis (defended in 2015 at the University of Ostrava, lead by Prof. Zdeňka Kalnická), which summarizes the published works and manuscripts by Štechová, I can spread the previous research and so in this I can concentrate on the inclusion of the thinker into the context and especially the exploration of the specific gender aspects of her philosophy. These will then be compared with the views of other thinkers and thinkers of the period. The main aim of this diploma thesis is to extend not only the philosophical but also the literary canon about female thinkers, and also to bring closer the idea of the femininity of thinkers and thinkers at the end of the 19th century on the Czech territory.
