Anastomosis in the peripheral arterial bed, its shape, arrangement, and remodeling
Grusová, Gabriela ; Lambert, Lukáš (advisor) ; Křivánek, Jiří (referee) ; Guňka, Igor (referee)
Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) of the lower limbs affects more than a fifth of the population over the age of 65 in the developed countries. PAD decreases the quality of life. It can lead to the loss of the limb or even death. Various risk factors that overlap with the risk factors for CHD and CMP have been identified. Chronic forms of PAD are staged according to Fontain's classification. Diagnosis of PAD is based on the clinical presentation, physical examination (including measurement of blood pressure difference) and confirmed by imaging methods. Treatment of PAD consists of influencing risk factors, treating symptoms and revascularization. Femoropopliteal bypass is the most common surgical procedure performed for revascularization. The conduit can be either a vein or a prosthesis. The preferred connection to the popliteal artery is an end-to-side anastomosis. It carries the risk of occlusion due to thrombosis, intimal hyperplasia, or progression of atherosclerosis. Intimal hyperplasia is a physiological response of the vessel wall to abnormal blood flow - turbulent flow, stagnation, oscillating flow, recirculation. The development of intimal hyperplasia can be influenced by constructing the anastomosis with regard to its hemodynamics - mainly the angle of the anastomosis, the ratio of the...
Diagnostics of pathological changes in vascular system and innovative methods of interventional therapy
Novák, Matěj ; Lambert, Lukáš (advisor) ; Křivánek, Jiří (referee) ; Cihlář, Filip (referee)
Purpose. The objective of the first study was to compare the results of primary patency of failing dialysis arterio-venous fistulas and grafts when using drug-coated balloon catheters in comparison with simple balloon catheters. The aim of the second study was to quantify perfusion changes on CT pulmonary angiography (CTPA) in patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). Methods. In the first study, a total of 76 patients were randomized to the study - 38 patients were treated with percutaneous transluminal angioplasty using a drug-coated balloon catheter, and 38 patients were treated with percutaneous transluminal angioplasty using a simple balloon catheter. Follow-up DSAs were performed at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months after baseline intervention. In the second study, CTPA in 58 patients with CTEPH were evaluated. The volume of the hypoperfused part of the lungs was measured using density thresholding in semi-automatically segmented lung volume and compared with hemodynamic parameters from catheterization. Results. In the first study, the primary patency in the PTA group with a drug-coated balloon catheter versus the PTA group with a simple balloon catheter was 86.7 ± 5.6% vs. 74.2 ± 7.4% at 3 months, 52.8 ± 8.4% vs. 25.6 ± 7.9% at 6 months, 21.8 ± 8.1% vs. 11.0 ± 5.9% at 9...
Interactive applets supporting teaching digital image processing
Křivánek, Jiří ; Mangová, Marie (referee) ; Rajmic, Pavel (advisor)
This thesis deals with the creation of applications for support of education computer graphics. The aim is to create a simple application which will show the functioning of the various methods. I implemented convolution methods for image filtering, dithering engaged in the distribution errors, bit planes that show each bit plane image, gamma correction to lighten or darken the image and procedural textures. All these methods are created in the form of Java applets.
Perception of radiation burden and of examination in patients undergoing computed tomography.

Purpose: The aim of the first part of this work was to evaluate the trend of the number of head CT examinations in patients with minor head injury in emergency service and to find out whether it has objective causes. The aim of the second part was to assess patients' knowledge regarding the CT examination, its risks, the source of their information and to evaluate the effect of providing information about the CT examination in a printed form. Method: In the first part of the work, we extracted data from the radiological module of the hospital information system. We searched for head CT scans in patients with minor head injury and their input characteristics and findings on CT. Further data were obtained from the hospital, the Institute of Health Information and Statistics and the Czech Statistical Office. Trends of regression curves were compared by F-test, correlation of trends was expressed using Spearman's coefficient. The second part of the work was based on a questionnaire for patients scheduled for CT scan of the body. The questionnaire included demographic data as well as items assessing patients' awareness of the risks of radiation exposure, intravenous contrast media, their sources of information and their fear of the examination. On the second page, Zung's Anxiety Scale was printed. On...
