Jarešová, Eva ; Reifová, Irena (advisor) ; Nečas, Vlastimil (referee)
The thesis "Portrayal of Czech justice in selected print media" addresses the question how four Czech dailies (Mladá fronta Dnes, Lidové noviny, deník Právo a deník Blesk) covered police investigation and court hearing in the case of Dana Stodolová and Jaroslav Stodola, two Czechs who in 2004 were jailed for a lifetime for eight murders, two attempted murders and other crimes as well. The thesis is divided into three main sections. The first section contains a brief general introduction to the theory of media news. The second one, oriented more specifically, gives a summary of foreign studies about covering crime and violence in the news. The actual analysis of the "Stodolovi case" is carried out in the third section. Included is both quantitative profile of the data and qualitative part where specific content and language issues are outlined.
