An Analysis of the Issue of Czech Musical Declamation in the Concepts of Hostinský and Krásnohorská in the "Struggle for Smetana" in the 1870s and 1880s
Janková, Markéta ; Dykast, Roman (advisor) ; Hons, Miloš (referee)
The subject of the thesis is the research of the formation of the theory of Czech musical declamation in the second half of the 19th century. The aim is to present this theory as part of the contemporary dispute on the concept of Czech national music. The thesis relies on the research methodology of the history of ideas, which it combines with the research methodology of the history of institutions, because the theory of Czech musical declamation developed against the background of the development of Czech opera theatre, Czech music criticism and music magazines. The main sources for the research on the subject of this thesis are mainly the contributions of Hostinský and Krásnohorská, who were the only ones to formulate the principles of correct Czech musical declamation. Other sources are contemporary texts, which are related to the context of the contemporary disputes against which the theory of Czech musical declamation was formed. The introductory chapter characterises the impact of the change in the political situation from the early 1860s onwards and the related transformation of Czech cultural life, in which the idea of creating a Czech national music, particularly through Czech operatic works, came to the fore. The second chapter presents the Wagner controversy as the basic impetus for the...
Critical atittudes of aesthetic formalism in Durdík's and Hostinský's conceptions to Wagner's idea "Gesamtkunstwerk"
Janková, Markéta ; Dykast, Roman (advisor) ; Kaplický, Martin (referee)
The presented bachelor thesis aims to examine the critique of the concept of "Gesamtkunstwerk" in terms of Czech formalist aesthetics of the second half of the 19th century. Because the concept of "Gesamtkunstwerk" is primarily associated with the theoretical and artistic work of Richard Wagner, an essential part of the work is an overall analysis of the contemporary situation in Czech music culture in the late 60s and especially during the 70s. During this period in Czech society, there was a heated debate about the possibility of performing Wagner's opera in the Czech lands. Along with this topic, there was a dispute over the essence of Czech opera, which was mainly related to the opera by Bedřich Smetana. The emerging Czech aesthetics entered into this dispute mainly through the aestheticians Josef Durdík and Otakar Hostinský. The main topic of the bachelor's thesis is the interpretation of the critical approach of Durdík and Hostinský to the concept of "Gesamtkunstwerk" based on the analysis of their work, which dealt with this topic in terms of their system of formalistic aesthetics. Durdík's and Hostinský's conceptions of formalist aesthetics began to differ significantly at a time when both were intensively dealing with the issue of "Gesamtkunstwerk". The final goal of the thesis is based on...
Additional theatre activities
Janková, Markéta ; Svobodová, Doubravka (advisor) ; Srstka, Jiří (advisor) ; Čuříková, Tamara (referee)
This thesis deals with additional theatre activities. I define the term ?additional activities? in the context of Czech laws in effect in the first part of the paper. Laws regulating all possible legal forms of theatre companies and their duties in differentiating and separate accounting of additional activities are especially brought to readers? attention. In the next two parts of the paper I examine tax laws (income tax law and value added tax law in particular) and trade law, which are closely related to additional activities. Ways of applying additional activities in practice in chosen theatres are described further. In these chapters I don?t limit myself to side activities run by nonprofit companies by law. I also notice similar activities of theatres operated like commercial enterprises. I analyze and summarize information raised in investigated theatres and point out main imperfections of legal system on final pages.
