The aim of this diploma thesis is the artistic and theoretical elaboration of the film of the genre of science fiction according to the book of Arkadije and Boris Strugacki. The thesis consists of two main parts, the theoretical and the own design of an art concept. The theoretical part deals with the definition of the science fiction genre, its historical development and also the analysis of creative approaches in the appearance of a foreign planet or the world of the future in Russian cinematography. I decided to analyze the variety of approaches in several selected films, where I focused on their art page, the use of the atmosphere and the film environment. The artistic part of the work contains its own art concept of the film.

The topic of this diploma thesis is the antiutopia and totalism in the Czech and world cinematography and it elaborates the proposal of an artistic approach to the film Nineteen Eighty-Four based on the novel by George Orwell. The theoretical part of this thesis deals with the definition of the relationship between antiutopia and totalitarianism, their characteristic features and how they manifest themselves in the cinema. This phenomenon is discussed in more detail in the folowing analysis of selected films in terms of their visual and production values. The second part of this thesis looks into the artistic approach to the film. The concept elaborates an urban design as well as individual exterior and interior sets and proposal of their designing.

This diploma thesis examines fantasy genre in world cinematography at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. It defines the genre and focuses on one of the sub genres - urban fantasy. On several examples of movies it shows this phenomenon in contemporary production. The main part is an artistic concept based on a scenario "Killing on carnival row" by Trevise Beacham. The proposal solves its space from urban unit to particular design of exterior and interior.

Abstract The main content of my master degree work is the concept design for film based on unpublished screenplay by David Lynch. The master degree work consists of practical and theoretical part. The theoretical part, called Visual World of David Lynch's Films, points out the influence of cultural environment, inspirations and art on visual style of his films. It finds out elementary symbols from his cultural enviroment and demostrates the way, how David Lynch use these motifs in his films. In the film analyzes, there have been found some more visual elements, which became part of David Lynch's visual style. The practical part presents my own concept design for film based on the screenplay "RONNIE ROCKET OR The Absurd Mystery of the Strange Forces of Existence" by David Lynch. Visual conception of a film adaptation of script Marek Epstein "Vlci a psi"

The practical part of thesis follows up the art processing of Mark Epsteins' screenplay Vlci a psi. The script is set in times after WW2, describing historical situation of the evacuation of Sudetenland Germans from previous Czechoslovakia in 1945. The practical part itself shows visual concept and structure which is presented by drafts of decorations and scenes. The decorations are visualized by coloured perspective views, drafts of each building and schematic designs. The teoretical part of the thesis is about analysis and parametres of stated films works that are very closely related to this issue and shows historical situation in film language. The visual part and its structure are shown in individual analysis. Results of the teoretical part were one of the basis for definition and visualisation of the practical part of thesis. Last but not the least the study of historical links, documents and internet portals containing given topic were another important teoretical source. These results of my thesis can be used as a source of interesting informations for a public, as an inpiration for film productions or as a study material for film students.

The context of my dissertation is an art concept of a period short story. It includes a theoretical, as well as a practical, part. The theoretical part concerns two movies and a TV series from world cinematography, as well as an example of a Czech movie; it evaluates and appraises the artistic aspect of each chosen example. The practical part includes my own art proposal for a short story Osudna vejce. I comment on my proposal, using images and providing examples of precedents. I describe the plot and show the sequence of scenes based on the text of the story.

The work deals with analyzing the Tracy's Tiger story and art scenes solutions according to the book. In the second part I analysed the story and I created a final storyboard. I created scene images and designed a model of Tracy Tiger´s city and streets inside the city according the movie. I also attached my inspiration recherches.

Visual concept of the movie "Normal". City as a dramatic space in film.

The theoretical part of the thesis deals with questions how the city environment is pictured in cinema. The thesis is mainly focused on the contemporary city and appearance of different types of city structure. The method of the thesis is to analyse selected movies with focus on scenographic solutions of the whole movie and at the same time on the connections between the movie exterior and interior. Main part of the thesis solves the graphic form design of the movie Normal, in accordance with script of Julius Ševčík. The script processes the tale of serial murderer Petr Kurten and it takes place in Germany in 1930. The thesis consists of a brief summary of historical circumstances, description of design, graphic processing of pictures and contemporary references. The graphic part of the thesis includes imaging of main scenes, which are selected to work out majority of stage sets occuring in the movie. Basic part of the design is presented in black-and-white, there are also numerous colour perspective drawings, which induce the color scheme and general mood of the movie. The aim of the project is to create dramatic setting in correspondence with the script and historical context.
