Hubáčková, Barbora ; Špirk, Ivan (advisor) ; Raudenský, Martin (referee)
annotation: Hubáčková B.: Signs in the streets - Comparison of Danish and Czech city design. (Graduation theses) Prague 2006 - Charles University, Faculty of Education, department of art. Signs in the streets - Comparison of Danish and Czech city design is a desk study which is concerned with history and forms of visual communication in public area and its position in the early 21st century. The target of these graduation theses was compare the position and level of visual communication in Denmark and in the Czech Republic. Information and orientation systems are incorrect in both countries but the errors come from different reasons. The big differences were noted at the level of processing of advertising which is at an even higher level in Denmark due to of stability and tradition of craft. keywords: street development, graphic design, visual communication, design, orientation system, advertising, poster, graffiti.
The effect of habitat continuity and management on species composition and diversity
Hubáčková, Barbora ; Münzbergová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Mudrák, Ondřej (referee)
Semi-natural grasslands of the eastern Moravia have big potential to host species-rich plant communities. However, changes in land-use during the second half of the last century were rapid and vast and many grasslands had been ploughed over. In the early 80s some arable lands were sown with low diversity clover-grass mixture and transferred back to grassland. Restoration of grasslands on former arable fields is a major challenge. Their colonisation by grassland species may be complicated by initial seeding productive low diversity seed mixtures. The aim of this study was to estimate differences in species composition and species diversity between ex-arable artificially seeded grasslands and fragments of grasslands with continuity over 70 years in the north part of White Carpathian Mts., SE Czech Republic and identify species traits limiting species ability to colonize the ex-arable grasslands. Target plant species (total of 137) were surveyed on 66 grasslands. Surveyed grasslands were according to continuity and type of management. Coordinates of centroids from each polygon (i. e. surveyed grassland) were used to treat the spatial correlation of the surveyed grasslands. The effect of continuity on species composition and diversity was tested after accounting for differences in the management and...
The effect of past land-use on species diversity
Hubáčková, Barbora ; Münzbergová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Chýlová, Tereza (referee)
This thesis is review of scientific studies on the effect of past land-use on species diversity. The aim of the thesis is to summarise knowledge of past land-use changes and their impact on plant communities and species diversity of grasslands. Those are mostly affected by human activities and have been used already for more than 8 000 years. In recent time, the agriculture has intensified, the main production is concentrated and marginal areas are abandoned. Many studies focus on spontaneous succession on these abandoned areas and the relationship between species diversity and past land-use. Their results suggest that current vegetation composition is mostly determined by habitat continuity rather than by recent land-use. In the last part of the thesis, I introduce the area of White Carpathian Mountains where my future research will be held. Key words: seminatural grasslands, historical management, biodiversity, past land-use changes, secondary succession
