Šorsáková, Gabriela ; Štichauer, Pavel (advisor) ; Ebrová, Agáta (referee)
Title: Italian similes in the construction ADJ come ... and their Czech counterparts in the parallel corpus InterCorp. Sequence of tenses in Italian and its possible translations into Czech
Králová, Anna ; Obstová, Zora (advisor) ; Ebrová, Agáta (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the topic of the sequence of tenses in Italian and its translation into Czech. The sequence of tenses in Italian represents a means of expressing temporal relations between sentences in a complex sentence. Since the sequence of tenses represents a complex and essential phenomenon of Italian grammar, which the Czech language does not possess, this thesis aims to outline an overview of the ways in which the Czech language copes with this difference when translating from Italian. The thesis is divided into two parts, the first part containing a theoretical introduction to the sequence of tenses phenomenon in Italian, and a theoretical overview of the morphological and lexical means used to translate temporal relations into Czech. The second part of the thesis presents the procedure and subsequent summary of the practical analysis results of selected translations of Italian sentences from the InterCorp corpus. The sentences selected for analysis were those that contained one of two chosen Italian verbs (pensare, credere) in indicative, one of the Italian past tenses (passato prossimo, passato remoto, imperfetto, trapassato prossimo) in the main clause that introduces a dependent clause connected with the Italian conjunction che as the linking expression between the...
Multi-Word Expressions in Calvino's Il sentiero dei nidi di ragno and Their Equivalents in Czech Translation
Ebrová, Agáta ; Obstová, Zora (advisor) ; Štichauer, Pavel (referee)
This diploma thesis is embodied in a wider phraseological project CREAMY (Calvino REpertoire for the Analysis of Multilingual PhraseologY) solved at the University of Rome La Sapienza. The aim of the thesis was to compare the Italian multi-word expressions from the novel Il sentiero dei nidi di ragno, written by Italo Calvino, with their counterparts in the Czech translation by Libor Piruchta, with the aid of a data-set obtained through the phraseological web database CREAMY. Processing of part of the Czech entries into the database was integral to writing the thesis. The work is divided into theoretical and practical part. The first chapter of the theoretical part provides basic information about the CREAMY project and the web application of the same name, which is the main tool used in the research within the project. The second chapter deals with the basic typological properties of the studied languages with emphasis on morphosyntax and word formation. The third chapter is devoted to multi-word expressions and their conception in the Italian and Czech linguistic tradition. The introductory chapter of the practical part describes the procedure of entry processing in the CREAMY application. In this chapter, we present two specific examples of processed entries but we also point out the...
