Regional development of mortality in the Czech Republic by selected causes of deaths in the period 1994-2009

Regional development of mortality in the Czech Republic by selected causes of deaths in the period 1994-2009 Abstract The bachelor thesis deals with description and analyze of regional differences of mortality in the Czech Republic during 1994-2009. The objective of this study was to find particular trends and show differences in various regions of the Czech Republic. General trend of mortality decrease was influenced by increasing standard of living and improving quality of health care. It had different intensity in each region of the Czech Republic. The quantification of these differences is main part of this thesis. The standard of mortality was studied separately by the sex in each region. As a basic element of the analysis was used the indicator of standardized mortality rates. This work analyzes three main groups of causes of death: cardiovascular mortality, cancer mortality and external causes. Tell Me How Long the Train's Been Gone by James Baldwin: translation and stylistic analysis of three representative fragments

This bachelor thesis is focused on the problems which may occur, while translating from English into Czech, using the novel Tell Me How Long the Train's Been Gone by the American author James Baldwin. The practical part contains chosen extracts from The House Nigger. The theoretical part aims at the analysis of my translation. Special attention is paid to the problematic sections, which have been encountered while translating. Final decisions are provided with my comments often with regard to the helpful quotes from the books dealing with translation theories, especially by Jiří Levý and Dagmara Knittlová. Intergenerational relationships in contemporary society Abstract The diploma thesis deals with the theme of intergenerational relationships, particularly focusing on ageism. This theme was chosen for the present social development and also because of its relevance. Intergenerational relations are becoming an important element of everyday life and thus have an impact on the lives of individuals and theirs families. Demographic indicators have a big influence for ageism and their analysis will also be part of the work. The work will include both parts, theoretical part, which will be familiar with the problems of intergenerational communication and conflict resolution and discuss the literature dealing with this issue, as well as empirical part, based mainly on secondary data analysis of sociological research. Sports demography: demographic analysis applied to populations of athletes

Sports demography: Demographic analysis applied to populations of athletes Abstract The diploma thesis deals with description and application of demographic methods in sports, namely athletics. Analysis is applied to data corresponding with the length of the TOP sports career rather than length of life of the individual. This means the calculation of life tables showing the length of the TOP careers of men and women in various disciplines, increase of the TOP careers of men and women, and the rest of the TOP careers of men and women by age at the best performance. After this part, the survival analysis follows. Survival analysis is a set of statistical methods for examination of the time duration to the occurrence of the studied (observed) events, which in this case will capture the best performance in the TOP career or termination of TOP career.
