Comparison of Czech and Slovak approaches to euro adoption
Kühnel, Michal ; Dlouhý, Vladimír (advisor) ; Dědek, Oldřich (referee)
The issue of monetary integration in Europe is currently hotly debated with very wide-ranging opinions. A clear demonstration of this is the difference in attitudes of Czech Republic and Slovak Republic in the matter of euro adoption. This thesis attempts to identify the reasons behind this difference. For that purpose we chose the following structure. First chapter summarizes pros and cons of a monetary union membership from a theoretical perspective. Second chapter describes the environment of the European Monetary Union and discusses its key features. Third chapter then provides a comprehensive analysis of Czech and Slovak economies in the spirit of the framework established by the previous two chapters. The results are not aligned with the expectations, as the economic performance of Slovakia with respect to monetary integration was not better than that of Czech Republic. We therefore identify alternative driving forces behind differing approaches of Czech Republic and Slovak Republic toward the introduction of euro.

Monetary Policy in Russia, Description of Central Bank's Policies in the Post-Crisis Period Abstract In this bachelor thesis two basic approaches to empirical evaluation of monetary policy are applied. Monetary policy conducted by the Central bank of Russia in years 2000 - 2014 is analyzed by means of modifications of both interest - rate rules and monetary aggregates rules. Special attention is devoted to the period during and after the 2008 financial crisis. Significant evidence supporting the hypothesis that the CBR is gradually shifting its attention towards inflation targeting was found.

Vondruška, Tomáš ; Dlouhý, Vladimír (advisor) ; Kadeřábková, Klára (referee)
The topic of my bachelor's work is the benefits and the costs of the common European currency and the following analysis of the current situation of the European Monetary Union. The first part deals with possible benefits and costs which are brought about by introduction of the common currency. In the second part I am trying to analyze whether the European Union meets expectations for optimum currency areas and whether the benefits from introduction of the common currency exceed its costs. At the end of this part I evaluate current economic development of Eurozone and several West-European countries which have not accepted the euro. I apply two basic economic aggregates inflation and GDP. The aim of this work is to point out possible benefits but also costs as a result of forming a monetary union. I would like also to outline whether the European Monetary Union has optimum currency area characteristics.

Tenglerová, Lenka ; Dlouhý, Vladimír (advisor) ; Mach, Petr (referee)
The aim of this work is an analysis of the too fast ingestion of the common European currency which is illustrated on the example of Baltic states: Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia. These countries have problems with high inflation rate and current account deficit. As an introduction, there is described a historical development of European Monetary System and process of states' accession to the Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM). Thereafter the work is focused on favourableness or unfavourableness of fixed and floating exchange rate regimes and their impact on the instruments of macroeconomic policy. Then follows an information about the actual economic situation of Baltic and the possible relation of the current account deficit and inflation rate to the fixed exchange rate. All the findings are given into the context to the Czech Republic at the end of this work.
