Late medieval mural painting of the castle Blatná - patronal background, function and stylistic context
CHUMOVÁ, Martina
The thesis deals with the function of the Great Hall at Castle Blatná. The hall is adorned with late medieval mural paintings and is also called the Knight's Hall or the Green Chamber. Thus, the thesis first aims to clarify the original purposes of these spaces. Its characteristics are explored primarily in terms of the spatial arrangement and secondarily in relation to the murals. The exploration is based on examples of preserved medieval artistic decoration in Bohemian lands. The thesis also considers the historical context and changes that occurred within the given period. The findings are compared with the Great Hall at Blatná, whose analysis was based on the same aspects.

CHUMOVÁ, Martina
The bachelor thesis called ,,Mural paintings of the Great hall in the castle of Blatná. Iconography and foreign parallels" is focused on the decor in the Blatna´s Old Palace, whose iconographic program has not been clarified in a satisfying way yet. Due to the extensive damage, a significant part of the paintings became unreadable and unclear, nevertheless some of the scenes and motifs were defined with certainty. Therefore, the thesis aims to gather all iconographic interpretations or all information that can help to clarify the meaning of the paintings in any way necessary. A detailed photo-documentation and a description of the paintings, with which the available data and knowledge are critically evaluated on the basis of comparison, are an integral part of this project.
