Self-confidence of adult children of alcoholics

Background: Foreign studies shown, that children from alcoholic family have lower self-esteem, compared to children living in a family where alcohol abuse does not occur. At the same time, there is a clear connection with alcohol use and insufficient fulfillment of family functions. Aims: The aim of this work is to describe self-confidence and possible connections in relation to growing up with an alcoholic in adult children of alcoholics (ACOAa). Attention is paid to the description of their childhood experiences and events that subjectively affected their self-confidence. Methods: To finding aims was used The Rosenberg Scale, The life curve method and semi-structured interviews, which I then evaluated using a thematic analysis. The research sample consisted of 8 respondents who grew up with an alcoholic parent as a child. Participants were approached based on the convenience sampling and snowball method. Results: Respondents described self-confidence in relation to individual areas of life. An important area of self-confidence proved to be at the level of one's own personality, which included self-development in the work sphere, free time and establishing new relationships.
