Rhetoric of US Foreign Environmental Policy: Case Study of the Paris Agreement

The Paris Agreement represents a landmark international environmental agreement that received extensive political, journalistic, and academic attention, and the United States played a key role in the negotiation process. This thesis presents a comprehensive overview of determinants that can impact the U.S. approach to international environmental politics, and it focuses on a detailed discourse analysis of U.S. federal political elites' rhetoric on the Paris Agreement, comparing two time periods - the second term of the Obama presidency and the Trump administration. The analysis demonstrates a strong alignment of political ideology with partisanship, dividing the Democratic and Republican argumentation into rhetorical opposition, and proves the significant influence of the highly polarized two-party system on the U.S. environmental rhetoric. However, applying Putnam's two-level game framework, the case study also demonstrates that even Democratic politicians approached pragmatic rhetoric on topics such as the U.S. economy, economic growth, or U.S. leadership, and employed creative narratives that addressed the pragmatic concerns of the American public to gain support for their progressive foreign policy agenda represented by the Paris Agreement in the end result. Media reflection of feminism and gender topics within the czech version of Playboy magazine

This bachelor thesis studies how the Czech version of the men's lifestyle magazine Playboy presents themes of gender and feminism. The theoretical part represents the theoretical basis of the thesis. It describes the content of gender studies and gender issues, the difference between sex and gender, the theoretical basis of gender and the issue of gender hierarchy in society are outlined. Furthermore, the theoretical part explains feminism as a movement, including its history. The concept of media representation of reality and the way media present feminism, masculinity and feminism are then introduced. The last part deals with the history and present of Playboy magazine, including its Czech version. The subject of the practical part is qualitative content analysis, carried out by the method of the grounded theory according to Anselm Strauss and Juliet Corbin. 1993, 2007 and 2019 Czech versions of Playboy magazine were established as a research sample. Two research questions were asked for research purposes: 1) How did Playboy magazine present gender and feminism in the years 1993, 2007 and 2019? 2) How has the strategy and content of presenting gender and feminism issues in this magazine changed over the years under review?
