Comparison of the Concept of the Post-Soviet Period in Russian and Ukrainian History Textbooks Published after 2000

The diploma thesis is dedicated to the comparison of the concept of the post-Soviet period in Ukrainian and Russian history textbooks published after the year 2000 and the educational policy in the field of history teaching in both countries. The first section deals with the state policy in the field of history teaching with an emphasis on the developments in the period after the year 2000. For completeness, an outline of the development of the issue in the previous period is also considered. The second section concentrates on the comparison of textbook interpretations using an analysis based on Paul Ricoeur's theory of the relationship between narrative and time.
The conception of the Soviet period in Russian school textbooks after 2000

The main focus of this work is the interpretation of soviet period in contemporary Russian historic textbooks. The text describes the evolution of textbooks and the politics of Russian government in the field of historical education. I am also mentioning the previous periods - the 90s and glasnost. The theme is understood from diachronic perspective. As the work shows the development between these periods can be relatively conclusively defined. After the plurality of historical interpretations in the glasnost period and the 90s there is a shift under the patronage of Putin that tends to unify the textbook's interpretations and points out their socializing (meaning identification) role with the help of patriotic interpretations of historical events. I examined the textbooks with the help of narrative analysis, this analysis is explained in more detail in the first segment of the work. Narrative analysis is used in a way that points out the development mentioned earlier - with help of Hayden White's method I examined potential of socialization in the textbook's interpretations, that grows stronger with the changes that took place after the year 2000.
