The Perception of the Korean way to independence in Czech literature and press until 1945

(in English): This bachelor thesis compares reflections on situation on the Korean Peninsula in works of Czech authors, as well as in texts created on Czech territory before 1945. The research also includes works that mention Korea even before the occupation by Japan to see the image of Korea before the occupation. Therefore, the research period begins in 1798 and ends with the year of the liberation of Korea 1945. The works of Czech authors and texts created on Czech territory are examined, mainly texts by travelers but also by legionnaires, Czech newspapers, and magazines, as well as novels using Korean themes or characters. Due to the scope of the work, not all mentions about Korea in newspapers and magazines published in the Czech Republic at that time are examined in detail. However, newspaper articles written by important academics who commented on the Korean situation are included, as well as summary for each period. The thesis focuses on the approval or disapproval of Japanese oppression and the portrayal of Koreans, as well as their frequent comparison with the Japanese. The work shows that at the beginning of the 20th century, criticism of the Japanese was milder, but with the subsequent occupation, there were more serious voices criticizing Japanese oppression.
