Assignment of the OFDM signal cyclostationary detector behaviour.
Lehocký, Jiří ; Šimša, Jan (referee) ; Šebesta, Vladimír (advisor)
Master’s thesis belongs to the Cognitive radio network sphere. These networks utilize frequency spectrum more effectively than networks used in present radio communications. The Cognitive radio concept makes coexistence of classic and cognitive radio networks possible. Attention is aimed at spectrum sensing as the key task of the Cognitive radio. Main properties of the cyclostationary detector, as the detector, that reaches high probability of the detection at a very low signal to noise ratio with apriori knowledge of the transmitted signal's cyclic frequency, are examined in this paper. The OFDM signals, that inherit cyclostationarity from cyclic prefix, used in the real systems have been chosen for testing the properties of the detector. The influences of decimation and multipath propagation on the probability of detection are quantitatively expressed. The optimal values for the weights of the multicycle detector are determined.
Spectrum sensing and multicarrier systems optimization for cognitive radio
Povalač, Karel ; Šimša, Jan (referee) ; Galajda,, Pavol (referee) ; Maršálek, Roman (advisor)
The doctoral thesis deals with spectrum sensing and subsequent use of the frequency spectrum by multicarrier communication system, which parameters are set on the basis of the optimization technique. Adaptation settings can be made with respect to several requirements as well as state and occupancy of individual communication channels. The system, which is characterized above is often referred as cognitive radio. Equipments operating on cognitive radio principles will be widely used in the near future, because of frequency spectrum limitation. One of the main contributions of the work is the novel usage of the Kolmogorov – Smirnov statistical test as an alternative detection of primary user signal presence. The new fitness function for Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) has been introduced and the Error Vector Magnitude (EVM) parameter has been used in the adaptive greedy algorithm and PSO optimization. The dissertation thesis also incorporates information about the reliability of the frequency spectrum sensing in the modified greedy algorithm. The proposed methods are verified by the simulations and the frequency domain energy detection is implemented on the development board with FPGA.

Dizertační práce je zaměřena na softwarově definované přijímače určené k úzkopásmové družicové komunikaci. Komunikační kanály družicových spojů zahrnujících komunikaci s hlubokým vesmírem jsou zatíženy vysokými úrovněmi šumu, typicky modelovaného AWGN, a silným Dopplerovým posuvem signálu způsobeným mimořádnou rychlostí pohybu objektu. Dizertační práce představuje možné postupy řešení výpočetně efektivní digitální downkonverze úzkopásmových signálů a systému odhadu kmitočtu nosné úzkopásmových signálů zatížených Dopplerovým posuvem v řádu násobků šířky pásma signálu.
Studies of Influences of Oscillators Frequency Instabilities in Satellite Communication Systems
Baran, Ondřej ; Baláž, Igor (referee) ; Šimša, Jan (referee) ; Kasal, Miroslav (advisor)
The dissertation thesis deals with a study of an influence of a simultaneous incidence of an additive thermal noise and a multiplicative phase noise on the useful signal transmission in narrowband satellite communication systems. While the additive thermal noise affects the useful signal only on the receiver side of the communication system, the multiplicative phase noise is produced in all system oscillators. One investigates how the receiver filter bandwidth reduction takes effect on the influence of individual noise types. The thesis is divided into four units. The first one (chapters 4 and 5) solves the ways of modeling of both noise types. In the second part (chapter 6), on the simple example, the primary analysis of the phase noise influence is made. Basic modulation schemes used in the satellite communication are also discussed (chapter 7). Third part (chapter 8) is devoted to the modeling of a general digital system with a M PSK modulation made directly on the main carrier wave. The last part (chapter 9) describes the modeling of a digital system with a BPSK modulation on the auxiliary subcarrier wave followed by an SSB modulation on the main carrier wave. General conclusions are deduced from obtained simulation results.

Šimša, Jan
Application of signal subspace methods in linear mean square error (MSE) detectors of direct sequence CDMA signals. Focusing on the cross-spectral (CS) method, its origin and a relation to multistage Wiener filter (MWF) is shown. This filter results from splitting of correlation matrix
