The "barbarian" king of the Migration Period: the reflexion of contemporary narrative sources

This bachelor thesis focuses on selected non-Roman rulers of the Migration Period in the reflection of contemporary narrative sources. The chapter on the Migration Period discusses this construct as a historiographical problem, thus defining time framework of this thesis. The following chapter is devoted to a critical evaluation of selected authors and their works in the context of the current state of research. Since this thesis deals with the "barbarian rulers", one chapter is devoted to the issue of perception of this term by the authors, due to the different frequency of use of this term and also in comparison with the definition of Isidore of Seville. Then follows a chapter summarising statements of selected narrative sources about the "barbarian" kings, while the reflections of individual rulers are compared. The last chapter concludes the thesis with searching for the ideal ruler based on the portrayal obtained in previous chapters.

In order to preserve its existence since its origination, mankind has had to deal with a variety of adverse effects which have been largely influencing human conduct and behaviour. We become witnesses to events that are identified as exceptional, because they often occur unexpectedly and endanger the lives and health of people. These events cause great damage to property and the environment. They may arise from harmful reactions of forces and phenomena resulting from human activities, from natural forces or from a combination of both. Such events may be floodings, storms, technological accidents with the release of hazardous substances, major road accidents, extensive fires, acts of terrorism. The management of such incidents and emergencies requires the intervention of the Integrated Rescue System. The joint intervention of the components abides by legal standards and internal guidelines. During the intervention of the Integrated Rescue System, a crucial part of the activities is carried out by the Fire and Rescue Units. The diploma thesis deals with the legislation in the field of civil protection and population protection. Information on the history of civil protection and population protection tasks is provided. The administrative territory of the South Bohemian region is characterized. The issue of the Integrated Rescue System and its structure is dealt with. The Fire and Rescue Units are proposed as appropriate to protect the population.

Road transport of dangerous substances represents a risk of emergency situations in which the transported substances can get out of control. The transport of dangerous chemicals has always been actual problem. It has been regulated by international directives, which determine the rules for handling of dangerous chemicals. Emergency situations related to a cleanup of dangerous chemical spill require an action of the Integrated Emergency System. This joint action is regulated by legislation and special regulations. This thesis is aimed to the legislation concerning the transport of chemical substances. It provides information on the vehicle designation used for transport of dangerous chemicals, and the identification and features of these compounds. The thesis also characterizes current situation in the district of the town Třeboň. It also describes the Integrated Emergency System, its structure and activities in case of emergency event caused by dangerous chemicals. As an example, the thesis explains procedures for individual bodies of the Integrated Emergency System during the joint action after an accident of the vehicle transporting hydrofluoric acid.
