Unsegmented speech retrieval
Češka, Pavel ; Peterek, Nino (referee) ; Pecina, Pavel (advisor)
In this work I search through interviews of Czech witnesses of the holocaust from the MALACH project to find relevant parts of these testimonies. Audio records of these interviews are automatically recognized by a system for an automatic speech recognition. Automatically recognized texts are then lemmatized and tagged. In this work I present a script which generates parametrizable collections of documents from these preprocessed texts. The task of unsegmented speech retrieval is then reformulated to a task of information retrieval in this collections of documents. In this work, I describe many experiments which examine the influence of different retrieval techniques on retrieval results on this data collection. Mainly, I study an influence of a morphological normalization (lemmatization), different types of IR systems (TF-IDF model, Okapi model and Indri model), blind relevance feedback, stopword list based on frequencies of terms and part-of-speech categories. I also place emphasis on various values of length and overlap parameters of generated documents. The results of these experiments are verified on test data. Audio records, outputs from automatic speech recognition system and topics for information retrieval are not part of this work due to legal grounds.
Automatical diacritics reconstruction for mobile devices
Železník, Jaroslav ; Novák, Václav (advisor) ; Češka, Pavel (referee)
The goal of this thesis is to develop a Java MIDP application for automatic reconstruction of the diacritics in Czech and Slovak texts. The application is intended for mobile devices and the size of the statistical model must meet the limitations imposed by the devices. A separate Java application will create the model files used by the mobile application. The size of the model can be adjusted to fit a specific device.
Text segmentation
Češka, Pavel ; Pecina, Pavel (advisor) ; Podveský, Petr (referee)
The bachelor thesis focuses on basic pre-processing (tokenization and segmentation) of Czech texts, mainly for purposes of Czech internet corpus. The texts for this corpus will be automatically obtained from the world wide web, therefore the segmentation is preceeded by character encoding recognition, cleaning and language identification. We performed experiments with two methods of language identification and present their results. The first method is based on comparison of the most frequent n-grams (substrings of length n) extracted from an unknown document and a large Czech corpus. The second one employs a model estimating word probabilities by conditional probabilities of trigrams estimated on the same corpus. For wider usage, we developed a module for tokenization and identification of sentences boundaries by a decision tree analysis of the nearest context of potential sentence boundaries and utilizing extensive lists of Czech abbreviations. The decision tree was trained on a set of manually processed data. Its evaluation was based on independent human judgements and results are presented in the work.
