Košata, Václav ; Scarano, Angelo (advisor) ; Brož, Jaroslav (referee)

Symbolism in the gospel of John can be revealed in its expressions, characters, actions and the cross itself. The bachelor thesis analyses particular symbols, classify them into the thematic groups and explains their meanings. This goal is not possible achieve without consideration of their not only theological but also literary and socio-historical aspect. Majority of symbols like a light, darkness or bread can evoke many different meanings to the reader. This fact leads to the extreme situation like imagination of any possible meaning of the symbols. The thesis is searching for true meaning using secondary literature. Symbols are presented like a human medium for expressions of divine facts for easier grabbing for human. The Parable of the Great Banquet in Luke 14:7-24
Hájek, Milan ; Brož, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Scarano, Angelo (referee)
The Parable of the Great Banquet in Luke 14:7-24 This bachelor thesis deals with the behavior of Jesus on the banquet while invited by a Pharisee. The Master communicates to present guests rules of right behavior (i.e. an objective look on one's own qualities, selfless assistance to those who are in need etc) that lead to the God's Kingdom. The way to this goal of earthly life is characterized by humility, listening to the Holy Spirit and full surrender into God's arms. God invites to Himself every human being that needs to prepare himself thoroughly by doing works of mercy. The banquet in this parable is compared to the Kingdom of God in which a man will experience the true and never lasting beatitude in contemplating God's face on the hardly describable place where no eye has seen, nor ear heard, what God had prepared for those who love Him.1 The final chapter of the work presents one of several possibilities how to apply the parable on the banquet in pastoral ministry. Keywords Banquet, the Kingdom of God, humility, mercy 1 Cf. 1 Kor 2,9.
Jesus, the Ligth of the world, opens eyes to a blind man (John 9)
Brtvová, Martina ; Brož, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Scarano, Angelo (referee)
The Diploma thesis "Jesus, the Light of the world, opens eyes to a blind man (John 9)" first presents and comments the structure of chapter 9 of the John's Gospel. The structure is divided into smaller together logically connected units that will be consequently elaborated in details (Chapter 1). Jesus came into the world as the Light. His concrete presence can be observed in singular cases of meetings of individual persons with Him as the Light. The example of it is the healing a man born blind. Jesus enlightens him, i.e. He brings him out of physical and spiritual darkness to the full light that is He himself (Chapter 2). A light in the Gospel of John is always related to Jesus. Jesus himself is the Light. This idea is presented in the Fourth Gospel as one of the principal vision of author's Christology (Chapter 3). Jesus expects that on this revelation of the light will be given an answer by a man. This answer is presented in the Fourth Gospel as a faith. One of typical johannine features of a faith is the relation between "seeing" and "believing" (Chapter 4). The whole Diploma thesis demonstrates that the motive of light, introduced already in the Prologue, is an important interpretative key to the Jesus ministry in words and deeds. Keywords Gospel of John, light, darkness, blindness, faith

The Interpretation of the Baptism by the Apostle Paul
Paluchník, Štefan ; Pokorný, Petr (advisor) ; Roskovec, Jan (referee) ; Brož, Jaroslav (referee)
The dissertation entitled as "The interpretation of the baptism by the apostle Paul" deals with the New Testament passages about the baptism written by the 4 apostle Paul - first of all in Romans 6 (§ 2). The clear reference to the baptism can be found in other passages of Paul (Gal, 1 Cor, 2 Cor, Col, Eph and Titus), but there are less clear texts as well (§ 3). Chapters (§) 2 and 3 are crucial for the investigation of the Paul's interpretation of the baptism. The second task covers the investigation of the relation between the faith confession in 1 Cor 15,3 and the procedure of the Christian baptism: coming down (water, grave) and coming up (death - life) according to the proposition of Petr Pokorný (the baptism as the sign of Christ ascent). The exegetical and the theological analyzes is used in both tasks. The results of the investigation are summarized in the closing chapter (§ 7): (a) Based on the exegetical work we can see that the text in Romans 6,1-11 represents the core passage (locus classicus) for the understanding of the baptism by the apostle Paul. This is the oldest New Testament evidence about the execution of the baptism. This text stores the oldest Christian tradition echoing the tradition of the Gospel in 1Cor 15.3. The model of the baptism by ap. Paul is included in texts: Gal 3,26-27; 1...

Biblical topics in the Journal of Catholic Clery in the years 1828-1889. Contribution to the history of Czech biblical studies
Musilová Daňhelová, Kristýna ; Ryšková, Mireia (advisor) ; Brož, Jaroslav (referee)
The bachelor thesis Biblical topics in ČKD in the years 1890-1920 brings up information about the articles of the biblical theme published in ČKD in mentioned years. This period was crucial for the birth of modern methods of biblical work. Their acceptance in the Catholic Church at that time collided with the obstructions and the restrictions. From the articles published in ČKD it is clear that the Czech biblical scholars had to deal with the contemporary tendencies but stayed in their majority on the ground of classical exegesis. The work is supplemented by medallions of the main authors of the published articles and a complete list of the articles as inclosure.
