Vlogs as a part of the Czech Youtube community's works
Beran, Matěj ; BENDOVÁ, Helena (advisor) ; DOLENSKÝ, Martin (referee)
This thesis is focused on Czech YouTube vlogs, their authors and spectators. I have therefore been watching those videos and attending events in the YouTube community over a few months and also asking authors about their motivation to create videos as well as the spectator's motivation to watch them. I have categorised and analysed Czech vlogs and associated videos. I have formed an overall opinion by applying texts by various sociologists and other theoreticians with the aim of presenting an integrated view on this topic. Youtubers and vlogs have the power to influence their audience as there is such a large number of spectators, mostly children.
Phenomenon of the emptied narration
Böhm, Michal ; BENDOVÁ, Helena (advisor) ; DOLENSKÝ, Martin (referee)
Emptied narration is a very popular contemporary term among people around film. However there is almost no literature concerning and clearly defining this term, which leads to a confusion among people who use it. (It is also a Czech language specific term - emptied narration is just a free translation of the Czech term "Vyprázdněná narace". There are not yet any English or other languages equivalents with the same specific meaning.) Emptied narration doesn't concern only a certain type of narration - it is also a very distinctive style of contemporary art feature films. The goal of this work is to refine this vague term and give it a theoretical background. The work draws its basic statements from the first and only text concerning emptied narration, and tries to expand its definition. The main body of this text is dedicated to finding mostly stylistical and narrative atributes common for the films of the emptied narration. These atributes are then researched more deeply and the main target is their possible impact on the spectator. For the emptied narration films is specific that the audience attention is drawed from the story to the actual film form. It may result in a very painfull experience for most of the audience but for educated viewer the experience may be very intensifying.

Elšík, Tomáš ; TRAJKOV, Ivo (advisor) ; DOLENSKÝ, Martin (referee)
This thesis is based on personally gained experience from the making of my graduation movie Message from Dement. I have applied mosaic system of narration. This experience is enriched by observation from other movies that use the same dramaturgic structure. I have tried to find general rules for the mosaic structure with more focus on directing - editing process by mutual comparing of those movies. The aim of this thesis is not to create a manual, but it is a reverse realization of work and thought process.

This essay analyses how the emotions of anxiety and fear are created and released in suspense and thrilling scenes, using the film Jaws (Steven Spielberg, 1975) as an archetypal case to illustrate my thesis. It also endeavors to define concepts such as emotion and fear and to provide an insight into the basic psycho-physiologic mechanisms associated to processing emotions of fear. The author proposes a general classification or fear scenes, explaining their characteristics, enumerating the different audiovisual cues associated to each type as well as other techniques used to sustain tension throughout the chosen film.

Dolejší, Dominik ; DOLENSKÝ, Martin (advisor) ; HART, Marek (referee)
The basis of this work is to look at the development of sound dramaturgy across the work of David Lynch. I work mainly on the principle of the screening of scenes and their operations from the broader perspective of the film. In the film, I analyze two films "Mulholland Dr." and "The Elephant Man", which became milestones for my work in the creation of David Lynch. It follows that the nature of my work: the author is not telling just limited to painting, as it is still going on, which is a testament not only to Czech films, but also in the world. Development work demonstrates the analysis of all components of sound films.
Jungian shadow archetype in contemporary western cinema
Reich, Michal ; TRAJKOV, Ivo (advisor) ; DOLENSKÝ, Martin (referee)
The main topic of this diploma thesis is the form and content of jungian shadow archetype in contemporary western cinema. In the first chapters it introduces the basic concepts of analytical psychology, which will be used as the principal method for analysis of the selected films (Fight Club, Game, Black Swan, Fisher King). The key concept is that in the core of each story are hidden archetypal contents. According to jungians these are the main force behind emotional response of audience. In films they can be portrayed either directly ? by personification into a film characters whose numinosity is supported by film language ? or indirectly ? by narrative elements and character's functions. The thesis concentrates on both options and analyzes formal means which express psychic nature of the selected film's elements. It defines three phases of ego-shadow relationship which are vaguely similar to three acts structure. It examines shadow archetype's function in the story and in human psychology as well. The results are put into context of jungian concepts. Rather than creating a complex system, the thesis outlines another option how to think about film and film language, which is deeply rooted in human psychology.

Schizophrenia Realised by the Cinematic Speech
Kovář, Vladimír ; Trajkov, Ivo (advisor) ; Dolenský, Martin (referee)
The presented thesis attempts to find the adequate ways to express the specific disorders of schizophrenia cinematically via the study of the illness on the psychological basis. Studying the diverse layers of the schizophrenic personality such as thinking, concentration, memory, perception and cognitive and perceptive processes, it tries to find the causes of the specific disorders. It also defines the state caused by these and later it focuses on the procedures (audiovisual fragments, editing, dramaturgy etc.) which could cinematically transfer the audience inside the head of the schizophrenic. It especially focuses on the hallucinations and their dramaturgic potential. When certain rules are preserved, the hallucination provides an instrument giving the infinite possibilities of slipping on the border between the real and the unreal. Therefore, it exceeds the framework of this thesis towards the general cinematic speech.
