Jindřich Šimon Baar - the personality and the work

Jindřich Šimon Baar, a Catholic priest and writer, is famous for his books with the Catholic problems and above all for his novels with rural themes. His most famous books are the novel "Jan Cimbura" and the trilogy from Chodsko "Paní komisarka", "Osmačtyřicátníci" and "Lůsy". The big part of his work was also collecting of the folklore of Chodsko, above all collecting of fairy tales, legends, numery rhymes and texts of many folk songs. Before writing about Chodsko, Baar wrote a story about the farmer from Putim Jan Cimbura. In this book Baar tried to show that was very important to save the prodigy of the rustic life and all rustic values for the future generations. The writer felt that the most of fundamental values of human life, for example the respect to traditions, old customs, to the heritage of our ancestors, to religion, to the soil etc. had been fading away from the human consciousness. Baar tried to save these values by collecting the texts of folk songs, fairy tales, legends, numery rhymes, riddles and folk costumes and all things that were connected with Chodsko in general. Vodňany- small town in small prose of František Herites

Diplomová práce představuje dílo napomenutého žánrového realisty", 1 Františka Heritese (1851 - 1929), jež patřil do okruhu spisovatelů lumírovské generace. Těžiště práce spočívá v analýze zobrazení malého města v Heritesových drobných prozaických útvarech (arabeska, kresba, humoreska, povídka). Předlohou pro kresbu maloměstské společnosti byly Heritesovi jihočeské Vodňany, které jsou jeho rodištěm. V nich také Herites strávil podstatnou část svého života, jenž byl spjat s lékárnickou praxí, díky níž poznal postavy a typy maloměstské společnosti, o nichž později psal ve své tvorbě. V souvislosti s vodňanským pobytem Františka Heritese je připomenuto jeho přátelství s básníky Juliem Zeyerem a Otakarem Mokrým, s nimiž tvořil tzv. Vodňanský trojlístek, který zaujímá významné postavení v literární tradici města. Tu však netvoří pouze toto uskupení, což je doloženo v kapitole věnované kulturnímu a literárnímu přehledu Vodňan. Two writers and one town (Alois Vojtěch Šmilovský, Alois Jirásek a Litomyšl)

Résumé In my diploma work, I tried to compare there the relation of Alois Jirásek and Alois Vojtěch Šmilovský to the city Litomyšl in which both lived, taught and wrote their books and to show the reflection of the small-town atmosphere of Litomyšl in their works. I worked with all sorts of historical documents, sources of information and literature which told aboud this town or these two authors. During the study 1 visited the Regional Museum in Litomyšl where I could see the extant personal corespondence of Jirásek and Šmilovský from which we could best read what their realation to the city and the citizens was. I could also read other historical documents in the District Archive in Litomyšl. But I found much of literature in the City Library in Litomyšl too. I also worked with books of Alois Jirásek and Alois Vojtěch Šmilovský, mostly with these which were written in Litomyšl or in which these authors wrote about the small-town atmosphere of Litomyšl. At the close of my diploma work I proposed a project in which the information gained during the writing my work could be used. I realized this project with pupils of the eight class of the primary school Proseč, district Chrudim. Jiří Langer - The try of Monography

The goal of this diploma work is to introduce the life and the work of Jiří Langer - one of the most interesting Czech Jewish authors. Langer did not use only Czech to express his ideas, but also Hebrew and the German language. I introduced him as a Czech author because I am convinced that it was mostly the Prague environment that formed him. The second important influence was his experience of Hasidism. Jiří Langer entered the world of literature thanks to the study Die Erotik der Kabbala and other Judaic works - in this period under the influence of Freud. He published in Czech his master work Devět bran (Nine Gates) in 1937 - an interesting collection of Hasidic legends, which is not comparable to any other works. In 1938 he succeeded to publish Talmud. Ukázky dějiny. (The Talmud. Excerpts and History) - a Judaic publication destined for Czech clerks in Galicia. He proved his translation and poetic abilities by publishing the anthology of Hebrew poetry from the 10th to the 19th century called Zpěvy zavržených (Songs of the Rejected) in 1938. The last two books, he managed to publish, was the Hebrew poetry. The first Piyutim veShirei Yedidut appeared in Prague in 1929, the second Me'at Tzori was published after his death in Palestine in 1943. Change in prosaic processing of occupation during World War Two theme in Czech literature between 1945 and 1965

Author of this graduation thesis focused on the prose processing the theme of World War Two in Czech literature between years 1945 and 1965. The main point is to demonstrate basic schemes of portraying the World War Two theme in Czech literature and to analyze fundamental works of this period. In particular chapters, author especially engages in immediate reaction of the documentary and fable prose on the war, generation conflict, elaboration of Jewish matter together with holocaust and prose with existential motives. Analyzing books of Julius Fučík, Jan Drda, Josef Škvorecký, Arnošt Lustig and Ladislav Fuks, the author shows different forms of prose with war theme and presenting its main tendencies.

National Tribunal with Karel Sabina in a New Perspective of Unpublished Archival Dokuments

Následující práce je věnována archivním dokumentům, které dosud zůstávaly mimo pozornost badatelů. Jde o fond Zemského soudu trestního ve Státním oblastním archivu Praha, kde jsou dochovány protokoly ze soudního vyšetřování onoho "národního soudu" z 30. července 1872. Karel Sabina totiž tehdy požádal policii a soud o ochranu před' "terorismem" účastníků tohoto soudu. Protože průběh zmíněného národního soudu byl dosud znám pouze z podání Jakuba Arbesa napsaného zřejmě podle vzpomínek některých z jeho účastníků, stojí za to je konfrontovat se zjištěními soudu a autentickými výpověďmi účastníků, učiněnými krátce po oné události. The Origins of the Psychological Prose of Václav Řezáč

In my diploma thesis Beginning of Psychological Prose in Václav Řezáč's Work I go after developement psychological motives and themes in work one of the unique czech writers. I also concern for procedure, which is typical for psychological prose. In my diploma thesis I am interested only in a 1928 - 1940 period, when Řezač started writing his first short stories and lately focused on writing novels (Větrná setba 1935, Slepá ulička 1938, Černé světlo 1940). Černé světlo has assured him the forefront position in czech psychological prose. Summary of developement Rezáč's prose in a 1928 - 1940 period I mention in Conclusion. Psychological elements occur already in Řezáč's first short stories. His novel Větrná setba (1935) deals with a protagonist, the adolescent boy, who sinks into moral decline during the First World War. Novel takés advantage of psychological themes such as Oidipus complex, conflict of thought and acts. The protagonist does not like himself. Větrná setba draws on Šrámek's novel Stříbrný vítr (1910). Slepá ulička (1938) is sociál novel with psychological elements. For the first time author works with many storylines, lyric style gives way to epic style. The Short Stories of Božena Benešová

Základní údaje: Markéta Čeřovská Povídky Boženy Benešové, Příbram, 71 stran Obsah: Centrem naší práce je povídková tvorba Boženy Benešové (1873- 1936). Tato autorka je v dnešní době již téměř neznámá a je neprávem opomíjená. Nikdy nezískala velkou čtenářskou pozornost, jelikož její díla jsou náročná a nelze je číst povrchně. Navázala na realismus a naturalismus, ale její texty jsou velmi moderní. Je autorkou psychologických próz, ve kterých se zabývá velkými etickými otázkami lidství a soustřeďuje se na existenciální problémy lidí. Její povídky nejvýrazněji reprezentují novoklasicismus v české literatuře. Tehdejší kritika považovala její dílo za příliš intelektuální a pro čtenáře nadměrně problematické. Naší prací se snažíme ukázat specifika povídek Benešové, jejich originálnost a přínos české próze počátku 20. století. Zabýváme se tématem, konstrukcí postav a výstavbou fikčního světa a zaměřujeme se především na naraci a vypravěčské postupy (vnitřní monolog, osobní vypravěč). Karel Červinka - Poet

Resumé S tvorbou Karla Červinky jsem se seznámila v roce 2002 na literárním semináři. Jeho poezie sice nepatří mezi závažná a klíčová díla české literatury, aleje rozhodně svědeckou výpovědí o poetice konce 19. století. Stanovila jsem si čtyři cíle. Přiblížit dnešnímu čtenáři dílo téměř zapomenutého autora, sestavit životopis Karla Červinky, vyjádřit názory tehdejší kritiky a najít kořeny tvorby autora. Připravila jsem výbor z celého období básnické tvorby Karla Červinky. Volila jsem texty vypovídající o autorském stylu s charakteristickými znaky poezie konce 19. století. Podařilo se mi sestavit výbor příjemné poezie přelomu století. Životopis Karla Červinky jsem sestavovala s poukazem na faktory, které ho při cestě k poezii nejvíce ovlivňovaly. Studovala jsem dobový tisk, zprávy a kritiky, které vycházely paralelně s jednotlivými životními etapami autora. Seznámila jsem se s informacemi o místě jeho narození, o studiu a zaměstnání. Popsala jsem spisovatelovu kariéru v oblasti advokacie a soudnictví, jeho největší pracovní úspěchy. V několika případech jsem odhalila inspirace k tvorbě poezie. Nadále však zůstává otevřena kapitola z jeho ryze soukromého života. Zde se mi nepodařilo zjistit vyčerpávající informace jednak o jeho rodičích a pak i o Červinkově vlastní rodině.
