Animals and plants in Italian and Czech phrases

(in English): My Thesis analyses Italian and Czech phraseological units containing animal and plant themes. The work is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part deals with phraseology, idiomatic and basic terminology. The practical part deals with symbols, weather saying and the phraseological unit analysis based on their level of equivalency. The following chapters are analyzing morphological, lexical, syntactical and work-making point of view.

The passive in Italian and its Czech translations in a parallel corpus

(in English): The aim of this thesis is to theoretically describe the Italian and Czech passive voice constructions and consequently analyse the translations of the Italian passive voice into the Czech language. In the theoretical part the different passive voice constructions will be listed. The focus will be laid upon their use, occurrence and the alternative ways of the passive voice interpretation will be mentioned. The goal of the empirical part will be to analyse the Italian literary works and to find out the frequency of the passive voice used together with the auxiliary venire. Afterwards, it will be compared with the passive voice constructions containing the auxiliary essere. Then the translations of the passive voice into the Czech language will be analysed. The results will be displayed in graphs and tables showing the various ways how the passive voice was translated into the Czech language. The empirical part contains also the comments on the various translation methods.

Subjunctive in Italian and its Czech equivalents in the parallel corpus InterCorp

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to describe the problems of the Italian subjunctive and its appropriate translation into Czech. At first, we will put forward the general definition of this verbal mode itself, then we will proceed to the description of its form and function in Italian. The major part of the thesis will be focused on the comparison of selected verbs in subjunctive with its Czech equivalents. Its expressions will be often ambiguous due to the absence of this verbal mode in Czech. That is why we use the parallel corpus InterCorp which will help us to analyse this part. We will introduce its useful function and wide application too. Finally, we will summarize the data.

Verbonominal constructions in Italian legal texts

This Bachelor thesis will endeavour to cover the conception of verbo-nominal constructions and their usage in the language of legal writing. It is divided into two parts: the theoretical one - where the basic terms are defined with a comparative digression on the state of verbo-nominal constructions in the Czech language; and into the practical one - which deals with the analysis of these constructions used in the Italian legal writing, focusing on both gramatical and semantic viewpoint of structures and their Czech equivalents. The Bachelor thesis will include the Italian-Czech terminological dictionary.

Prepositions vs. prepositional article in contemporary Italian with particular regard to the preposition "in" and "nel"

The aim of this thesis is to compare the occurrence ratio of the preposition proper IN and contracted form NEL, to evaluate the results of the research and to arrive at new uses of prepositions in contemporary Italian. In the first part of my bachelor thesis, I will focus on the theoretical part in which I will summarize and describe individual monosyllable "proper" prepositions and prepositional articles. In the practical part of my thesis, I will examine the ratio of appearance of the prepositions "in" and "nel" and a, con, su (appearing in concurence) on the particular examples, using the online Italian corpus CORIS/CODIS and La Repubblica. Finally, I will evaluate the results of the study.

Masculine and feminine gender in Italian: not only grammatical category

Key words: grammatical gender, nouns, language sexism, society, lingustics This work focuses on phenomenon of nomi di azione which indicate professions, occupations or titles in Italian. In this limited group of substantives exists inequity between used masculines and feminines. The crucial source of this work is an important work of Alma Sabatini Raccomandazioni per un uso non sessista della lingua italiana (1986), which consists of recommendations for more appropriate and neutral expressions. The work managed to include this topic into the public consciousness and point out to its impact for society. Practical part of the work is based on analysis of competing forms of words, which do not fit common language standards or social conventions. These forms will be examined by five italian expository dictionaries (published between 1998 and 2007) and the Italian corpus of La Repubblica. The results attempt to map current situation and confront it with the recommendations of A. Sabatini. However, the issue is beyond the linguistics area, so the concern of this work is focused also on the socio-cultural and psychological aspects, which condition the whole situation. The auxiliary choice in the dialects of Corropoli and Nereto

This paper analyses the issue of auxiliary choice in middle Italian dialects spoken in areas of Corropoli and Nereto (TE). The study deriving from data elicited through series of questionnaires consists of two main parts. The first part provides primarily description of phonetic and morphosyntactic plan of both dialects. Based on syntactic and lexical semantic theories (BURZIO, LEONE, VINCENT, CENTINEO, SORACE, BENTLEY - EYTHÓRSSON and others), the second part forms a platform for comparison of auxiliary choice in Italian language with a system, which does not reflect split intransitivity, but depends on grammatical person and tense, valid in both dialects.

The future tense in contemporary Italian

This bachelor thesis, Futurum in present-day Italian, attempts to tender a summary overview of Italian future tense, respectively future perfect tense, including all of its uses. The attention isn't paid only to the traditional use of future tense, but is also concentrated on modal occurrences, especially with reference to Renzi's Grande grammatica italiana di consultazione II. A confrontation with Czech is incorporated in all cases. By virtue of this comparison is taken special notice of the difference in category of verbal aspect, which is from the standpoint of Czech future tense really fundamental. Apart from the characteristics of simple and composite future tense this thesis deals with alternatives, which are possible in Italian language and which can be used in place of future tense just in the meaning of future actions. Also here is apparent either similar or different attitude of Italian and Czech language. The gathered theoretical knowledge is illustrated with examples. On the basis of these examples is, on the one hand, corroborated the validity of Italian grammar rules, but on the other hand, it is absolutely obvious that these rules (in a similar way as the Czech ones) are often modified by actual usage.

The Italian imperfect

The thesis focuses on the Italian Imperfect tense, and the main emphasis is given to its modal use. The first part of the thesis presents the Imperfect in its temporal use, then a limit between the temporal use and the modal one is set. The next part is completely dedicated to situations where the Imperfect attains its modal character. An important quality of the Imperfect tense is the imperfective aspect and therefore it is considered in the thesis as well. The final part tries to find an answer to the huge flexibility and such a strong inclination of the Imperfect to modal uses.

Zero article in contemporary Italian

This work intends to offer a general view of the cases in which the contemporary italian grammar omits the article. The various types of articles and noun phrases will be presented in the first section just briefly, only to give the reader an overall background in which put the cases with the zero article. A special attention will be given to the cases that permit oppositions between the use of an article and the use of the zero article. Therefore what will be examined primarily will be: the plural of undetermined noun phrases, numerals, mass nouns, proper nouns, family nouns, possessives, verb+noun constructions, ellipsis and left dislocations. This work is addressed in a special way to students of italian, who will be able to find, in the different chapters, many explanations to the most occurring questions concerning the appropriate use of the zero article.
