Selected aspects of radio programmes on cooking
Jelínková, Blanka ; Andrlová Fidlerová, Alena (advisor) ; Adam, Robert (referee)
This thesis discusses selected linguistic aspects of two radio culinary broadcasts (Rozhlas u plotny, Pochoutky). The theoretical part deals with the tradition of spoken language research, its resources and the phenomena studied. The conclusion of this chapter is devoted to the approaches to spoken language focused on coherence and cohesion. For the purposes of analysis, transcripts of above mentioned radio culinary broadcasts were made. Specific transcription rules (based on different existing transcription rules) were created, to suit our type of analysis. In Rozhlas u plotny, the guest is a professional chef, in Pochoutky, the guest is an actor or a presenter. First part of the work briefly describes and compares language of these two types of speakers in the terms of phonetics, morphology, lexicology, syntax and stylistics. Subsequently, the main part of the thesis concentrates on textual syntax and describes cohesion and coherence of spoken dialogue. From this point of view, it focuses on comparison of two types of dialogues (and two types of speakers): predominantly continuous dialogue vs. predominantly interrupted dialogue (e.g. by overlapping talk). Thus, it gives examples representing various ways of retaining cohesion and coherence in continuous dialogue and in interrupted dialogue. Key...

The source material is comprised of forty editions; the oldest of the texts is that of the first edition (published 1845-1847), the most recent text was published in 2009. The full texts of the forty editions of the three fairy tales are enclosed on a CD. Editorial changes in the source texts (in contrast to the first edition) have been highlighted. The thesis itself is divided into six main sections. The first section is introductory and it chiefly describes the selection of the material and the method of its processing. The second chapter deals with selected orthographic issues, particularly with the placement of exclamation marks and semicolons, and writing j in the auxiliary verb být in the preterite (šel sem / šel jsem). (Not) writing j in the auxiliary verb být is a stylistic device which helps to distinguish the speech of one of the characters. However, most editors change all forms to the variant with j, whereby the stylistic distinction is lost. The third chapter examines morphology, especially the alteration of selected verb forms. Topics of the subchapters are: supine, participles, past conditional and verb tenses. Editions published after 1989...

It represents a practical example of how to treat and make accessible a great amount of manuscript source material in a way so that it could be successfully exploited by the scientists of different disciplines interested in early modern ages. Simultaneously, it is a part of the source basis for the first part of the thesis (the accompanying essay), which, nevertheless, dwells on the whole of the material encompassed in all the so far published parts of the Inventory. The accompanying essay has several goals: From the informative point of view it summarizes the content of the Inventory, i.e. which types of manuscripts does it comprise (according to the age of the manuscript, the language or languages used and the genre or subject matter) and tries to trace the causes of the findings.
