Czech-German (Austrian) language relations

TITLE Czech-German (Austrian) language relations - possibilities for language interference SUMMARY This diploma thesis examines the language interference between the Czech and the German in the field of gastronomy. This phenomenon is reflected in the composition of grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary. The last area has been selected for a research. I decided to analyze 180 menu cards in the nine states of Austria. In those menu cards I tried to discover 13 in advance chosen words, which have been used in the Central-European language area according to Newerkla. Appearance of those 13 words in menu cards proves mutual language influence between the Czech and the German in each state of Austria. The research, I conducted, shows that the most influenced states are Vienna, Lower and Upper Austria. Probably the main reason for the result is that in these areas the most intensive political and economic cooperation between Czechs and Austrians took place.

This diploma thesis discourses on a German dialect in the Czech Republic. It is both generally and specifically engaged in research in dialectology, in its procedures and methods. It describes an existing research both in Germany and the Czech Republic. In its practical section you will find a description of a German dialect in the southern Moravia. It was done with help of audio recordings of two German native speakers who stayed in this area after the Second World War. The research was based on the audio recordings of the contemporary state of German dialect in southern Moravia.
Caroline of Günderrode - poet, literary figure and early feminist

A life and work of Karoline von Günderrode is introduced in the diploma thesis. These are more closely described as accordance with her standing in the development of emancipation. Karoline von Günderrode occupies special position in history of literacy; it is not easy for literary historian to assign her work to a specific literary epoch because her work does not respond to any rules of a certain literary stream. The life of Karoline von Günderrode surpasses the society behaviour of that time, particularly in accordance with a society status of women. Karoline von Günderrode as literacy feature in the novels of later authors is very interesting, too. Within this context are mentioned works of Bettina Brentano (von Arnim) "Die Günderrode" and Christa Wolf "Kein ort. Nirgends".

Trilingualism in Luxembourg and its Reflection in Luxembourg's Society and School System

Tato diplomová práce zkoumá jazykovou situaci v Lucembursku a její odraz v lucemburské spolecnosti a ve školství. Jazykovou situaci a praxi v Luxembursku lze charakterizovat jako spolecenský trilingvismus, který s sebou automaticky prináší i trilingvismus individuální. Na tomto principu je vystaven celý tamejší školský systém. Jazyková a školská politika, která má za cíl podporovat a udržet aktivní trilingvismus u všech svých obcanu, proto hraje v Lucembursku velkou roli a má velký vliv pri plánování nových kroku a opatrení v rámci jazykového vyucování. Takováto jazyková praxe s sebou sice prináší nekolikeré výhody pro jednotlivce i pro celou spolecnost, její negativní dopad predevším na vyucování jazyku, obzvlášte jazyka materského, je však zrejmý. Cílem této diplomové práce bylo poukázat nejen na kladné, ale i na záporné stránky soucasné jazykové praxe v Lucembursku a navrhnout možná teoretická rešení k jejímu zefektivnení.
Reflection of fascism in the chosen German pieces of prose

RESUMÉ Mario a kouzelník, Mefisto, Tranzit - tri díla trech spisovatelu, která se zabývají spolecným tématem, ale liší se od sebe casovou rovinou zkoumaného tématu. Odrážejí charakteristické rysy fašistické ideologie na jejích rozdílných vývojových stupních. Ve vztahu k tématu na sebe casove vybraná díla ve zmíneném poradí plynule navazují. Je napínavé pozorovat, jak se v nich fašistické smýšlení promenuje a jak krok za krokem nabývá stále nebezpecnejších rozmeru. Na pocátku plížive napadají fašistické myšlenky rozpolcenou a zmatenou spolecnost v nekolika zemích, na konci své cesty zachvacují svým terorem celou Evropu. Ve své diplomové práci jsem se zameril na ta místa ve zmínených dílech, která podle mého názoru znaky fašismu výstižne reflektují, a zanalyzoval jsem, jak jejich recepce modeluje obraz spolecnosti, který je ctenári zprostredkováván. Behem textové interpretace tyto aspekty zduraznuji a komentuji. Autori - Thomas Mann, Klaus Mann a Anna Seghersová - zobrazují ve svých dílech literárne do vysoké míry subjektivní pohled na zpracovanou historickou realitu. Nehlede na jejich stejnou profesní cinnost se každý z nich pohyboval v rozdílném prostredí, ze kterého lze odvodit výber látky. Každý spisovatel prodelal s národnesocialistickou diktaturou jinou osobní zkušenost a tudíž hodnotil tehdejší pomery...

TITLE: Adalbert Stifter as a Narrator of Everyday Life SUMMARY: The subject of this thesis is the person and work of the writer Adalbert Stifter and the possible approaches to him. The object of this work is to observe the typical features of Stifter's work, to find possible reasons for its uniqueness and possible ways to it. Because I would like to achieve these objectives, I concentrate on the characteristics of Stifter's life and work and by their possible connection which can be seen in his "gentle law". Then I focus on the approaches to Stifter, that is on the reception of him and his work and on the concept of some possibilities for lessons. In my work I arrive at the conclusion that Stifter's life and opinions are mirrored in his work, that the approaches to him were and still are manifold and that he offers some possibilities for lessons and also for all readers. Exile, War and Escape in France in the years 1933 - 1941, as depicted in selected works by German writers

In dieser Arbeit wurden vier Romane von deutschsprachigen antifaschistischen Exilautoren analysiert, deren Schicksal mit Frankreich verbunden ist. Das Hauptanliegen war es, die Romane mit den damaligen zeitlichen, sozialen, kulturellen und nicht zuletzt privaten Umständen der einzelnen Autoren in Zusammenhang zu bringen. Im ersten Teil der Arbeit erfolgte ein kurzer Überblick über die Exilliteratur im Allgemeinen, über die komplizierte Situation im Literaturbetrieb und von den Literaten im Dritten Reich sowie über die wichtigsten Exilmöglichkeiten und -ziele. Im zweiten und umfangreichsten Teil der Arbeit standen die einzelnen ausgewählten Autoren im Mittelpunkt, die bedeutendsten Tatsachen aus ihrem Leben und ihrem Werk. Es folgte jeweils die ausführliche Analyse eines ausgewählten Werkes, mit der Betonung des Kontextes der persönlichen Erlebnisse des Autors. Der dritte und letzte Teil stellt eine Synthese der vier Analysen dar, unter besonderer Hervorhebung des Gemeinsamen und Trennenden. Der Schwerpunkt des Vergleiches der einzelnen Werke liegt in dem Umgang des Autors mit dem historischen Stoff, seine Einstellung zum Krieg und zum Exil und wie sich die eigenen Erlebnisse in seinem Bild vom damaligen Frankreich niederschlagen.
German Proverbs and Their Application in Foreign (or Second) Language Teaching

This diploma thesis deals with German proverbs and with ways of their application in teaching the German language. It describes the proverb, its historical development and its present frequency of usage as well. By means of my own research in the form of questionnaires to be filled in by native speakers of German, the thesis lists the best-known German proverbs. Moreover, it shows the manner in which the proverbs are presented in today's German textbooks, and also creates and demonstrates its own exercises that are to be put into practice later on. It gives a detailed description of the preparation plan for three lessons centred on the topic of proverbs, and their course. Based on the thorough evaluation of the course and results of this teaching experience, it concludes that with the help of proverbs, foreign language teaching can be meaningfully enriched and enlivened.
