The idelogical sources of Christian democracy in Central Europe in the years 1945-1948.
Kugler, Pavel ; Pokorná, Magdaléna (advisor)
Christian democracy in Central European countries which found themselves under the influence of the Soviet Union was not given the oppurtnity to play an important role in the development of the region in a way which was achieved by the Christian democrtas after 1945 in the Western part of Europe. A fundamental role in this procress was assumed by external conditions, and interventions from the outside became the decesive factor. Nevertheless, despite the relatively short period of tihe lasting in fact only two years, both identical traits and differences clearly manifested themselves in the understanding of what guidig idea of a party whith this programme delimitation should be. The work will try to show what challenges the efforts of the rebirth associations had to face, and what specifics the organizations of a purely female membership had. An example of such a society was Sestry slovanské, later called Spolek slovanek, which was founded in the stormy year of 1848 and whose activity, which included both publishing and educational activities, is the subject of this work. By the synthesis of archival research and study of professional literature I will attempt to map the internal relations of the society and it's public activities.

Grabenbummel- The walk on Příkopy
Smrček, David ; Pokorná, Magdaléna (advisor) ; Hlavačka, Milan (referee)
(in English): "Grabenbummel", a walk of the German Studentenverbindungen in couleur, was one of the most significant displays of a national war over Prague and its public space. Four times between 1898 and 1912 the "bummel" gave opportunity for unrest and riots in the city. Not only it became a political topic, a reason for conflicts between Czech and Germans in the media, Bohemian Diet and Imperial Council, but also a very serious problem for the state and its offices to solve. Based on Czech and German press and archive resources from Národní Archiv České republiky and Österreichisches Staatsarchiv, I am presenting the creation, evolution, and the politicization of the custom. I examined the four main years of the riots, finding multiple important topics, and analyzing some of them in the last chapter. I complemented the thesis with the poems from the press of the Burschenschaften, as well as Czech and German anecdotes and caricatures.

I am focusing on involvement of women in public affairs at the beginning of a new republic. Due to the remarks she made during the meeting of municipal council and the city council of Poděbrady, we can observe the background of formation of self- government during the first years of the newly founded republic. The transformation of local elites, the tasks of local self-government or the involvement of women in public life, these are the topics of which Marie Komárková gives subjective testimony in her writings. A specific feature of this case is also the Poděbrady town environment, which gradually became a spa town in the given period. In addition, this work describes a transformation and functioning of local self-government during the first years of the Czechoslovak Republic through personal memories and notes of one particular person. There are also other topics Marie Komárková's character has to offer, such as girls' education or post office work at the end of the 19th century. The source base is made up not only of the memories and remarks of the former Poděbrady councilor, her husband and son, but also of correspondence, contemporary press or various sources of...

He was the translator of folk songs, poems of Kollár, Čelakovský, Štulc, Vocel, Jablonský, Erben and others. With his extensive work he tried to be a mediator between Czech and German culture. The thesis analyses individual compilations of translations, their presentation and reception, and primarily deals with the role of the translation between Czechs and Germans. The aspect of translator is also very important, because he grew up in the German family, but he took a positive stand on the Czech nation. The thesis aims to interpret Wenzig's texts (mainly forewords), which accompanied the translations, and their impact on the reception.
