Martinásková, Daša ; Engel, Zbyněk (advisor) ; Uxa, Tomáš (referee)
Submitted Bachelor thesis is focused on thermal regime of the morain covering, which is one of the main indicators of the extension in periglacial and glacial zone in the mountain environment. Introductory part is concluded from themed literature and is primarily focused on the characteristics of the thermal regime of sediments and their relationship to the boundaries of the mountain permafrost, position of equilibrium snow line and temperature-based mountain glaciers. The following sections of this work are describing physical and geographic conditions of the valley of Adygine in Kyrgyz Range area (northern Tien-Shan) as well as the methodologhy of the used work The main part of this document is the evaluation of measured temperature in the morain cover in the area of interest. At first from general point of view, then in terms of freeze-thaw characteristics and finally relate these findings to the local conditions of the glaciál environment. According to the measured results, is it clear that there are many factors influencing the soil temperature regime. Among the most fundamental, the most important include air temperature, local circulation conditions, snow cover and local habitat conditions. Knowledge gained from the practical part shows that the measurement localitions are characterized by...

Friedlová, Zuzana ; Křížek, Marek (advisor) ; Engel, Zbyněk (referee)
- Paleoenvironmental significance of ice and frost wedges This bachelor thesis deal with frost wedge and ice wedge pseudomorphs. At first part is summarized how and from are pseudomorphs formed. Therefore there is describe distribution and structure of permafrost, frost cracking, definition of ice wedges, their kinds and their transformation to pseudomorphs. Next part of this bachelor thesis describes morfological characteristic of polygons of frost wedge pseudomorphs at study area Šaratice. This polygons were compared with european pseudomorphs a then was deduced paleoclimatical and paleoenvironmetal reconstruction of their formation. Pseudomorphs are compared from their morphological characteristics too. Keywords: ice wedges, frost wedges, pseudomorphs of wedges
Continental glaciation of the northeastern part of the Frýdlant Spur
Lehejček, Jiří ; Nývlt, Daniel (advisor) ; Engel, Zbyněk (referee)
North-eastern part of Frýdlantský Spur is situated at the northern foothills of the Jizera Mountains. It represents an area, which was at least twice covered by North-European ice sheet during the Middle Pleistocene. At the same time, it is the region whose hills have the summits around the expected altitudinal limit of the maximum ice sheet extent. Therefore, it is a suitable area to study glacial trimline altitude. Schmidt hammer testing was applied to determine different state of rock surface weathering. Obtained R-values were taken as the most relevant data for glacial trimline determination. Nevertheless, other approaches (GIS analysis, outcrops, block fields and erratics mapping) were also incorporated. Interpretation of these approaches gave the altitudinal limit of ice sheets in the north-eastern part of the Frýdlantský Spur at 500 m a. s. l. ± 20 m.
Thermal regime of moraine cover in the Adygene valley, Kyrgyz Range
Martinásková, Daša ; Engel, Zbyněk (advisor) ; Uxa, Tomáš (referee)
The focus of this bachelor thesis is the thermal regime of the morain covering in the valley of river Adygine in Kyrgyz Range area in the northern Tien-Shan. The intention of this thesis is to evaluate the temperature measurements from the glacis zone of the Adygine glacier and to explicate the results with regards to the continuance of recent permanent snow line and permafrost area. In the area of interest, with altitude 3498 to 3659 m, two air temperature sensor and five thermistors with MINIKIN dataloggers were installed. The thermistors measure temperature in 15 and 30 cm depths below the surface of glacial accumulations. The surface layer of morains melts annually for three or five months, mean annuall ground temperature did not drop below -2řC and area of measurements is distinguished with weak freeze-thaw activity. The mean annual air temperature in year 2011 was -4,5 in 3653 m and -6,1řC in 3913 m altitude respectively. The comparsion of measured data with publicated average permafrost temperature data in nearby ranges of Tan-San mountains suggests, that area of interest is located in discontinuous mountain permafrost area. Zero isothermic line is located in approximately 2900m altitude. This is lower than the mountain permafrost level and so the base of glaciál forefront can be denoted as...
Movements of ploughing blocks at the Čertova louka site (Krkonoše Mts) in 2009-12
Horáčková, Lenka ; Engel, Zbyněk (advisor) ; Šobr, Miroslav (referee)
Present researches of ploughing blocks deal with a recent blocks' activity issue and with causes of movement of the blocks downslope. Research at Čertova meadow has measured changes of boulders' locations in period 2009 - 2012, processes of undersurface temperature and dependence of movement on mass of the boulder and snow cover layout. Triennial research didn't prove the movement of boulders dependence on mass of boulder, however it showed dependence depth into which boulders are embedded in the soil and height of the boulder above terrain. Annual changes of boulders' movement were irregular. The overall assessment in period 2009 - 2012 showed that more than half of the boulders were in correspondence with vertical and horizontal direction of movement downslope. For confirmation of the movement of boulders it is necessary to carry out long- term measurement. Key words: ploughing blocks, periglacial environment, East Krkonoše Mts.
Differences in morphology of the valleys in the Jizerské hory Mts.
Hložek, Martin ; Engel, Zbyněk (advisor) ; Hartvich, Filip (referee)
This Master thesis focuses on a river network characteristics in the Jizerské hory Mts., northern Bohemia. This part of the Czech Republic represents an area, which was during Tertiary and Pleistocene affected by neotectonic movements. Therefore, 30 longitudinal profiles of selected rivers were constructed to determine areas influenced by tectonics most intensively. These profiles were classified into four categories according to shape of profile curve. Also valley cross sections were made on five selected rivers. Additionally, the Jizera and Jizerka rivers were studied to assess changes of their streams in the period of 19382012. On the north-western (the Jeřice river catchment) and northern (the Smědá river catchment) slopes of the Jizerské hory Mts., areas most affected by neotectonic movements were detected. Tectonically controlled valley cross sections are distinctive on the Smědá, Jizera and Kwisa rivers. On the Jizerka and Jizera rivers, lateral erosion rate ranges up to 0,5 m/year.
Microforms of sandstone relief and their using in relative dating
Krbcová, Klára ; Křížek, Marek (advisor) ; Engel, Zbyněk (referee)
Microforms and mesoforms play the main role in the sandstone relief. Their origin is conditioned by some processes, the main are weathering and erosion. Based on the background research, the deffinition, classification, diagenesis and occurrence of sandstones was described. The second part of the bachelor thesis is focused on the mechanism of weathering and erosion. The microforms and mesoforms of the sandstone relief were divided into groups according to the guiding process of their origin. The description of the sandstone forms, the way of their origin, the stage of development and their extension were described. In the practical part of the bachelor thesis, the microforms in the gorge Apatyka in CHKO Kokořínsko were analyzed. The practical part was focused expecially on honeycombs, because their extension in the gorge is huge and they enable the complex analyse of their location in the gorge and in the rock outcrops. Using suitable methods it was found, that the honeycombs are located primarily in the eastern quadrant, their coverage decrease with the decreasing height of the rock outcrops and their presence in the lowest and the highest parts of the rock walls is limited. The second part of the fieldwork was focused on the relative dating of the parts of the gorge with honeycombs. The odlest part of the...
Evaluation of physical-geographical research of the High Tatra Mts in the period 1969 - 2008
Jurdík, Michal ; Kalvoda, Jan (advisor) ; Engel, Zbyněk (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with physical-geographical researches about High Tatra Mts published in 1969 - 2008. It describes mountains within it's geomorphological, hydrological, climate, soil and other features. I have discussed the late and novel information. It highlithed the points were the knowledge diverged. High Tatra Mts. build an exclusive complex of landscape natural components. Lots of landform factors in small area and vertical zonation with variable characteristics makes this area a good model for geographical studies. Key words: physical geography, High Tatra Mts.
Risk analysis methods of natural catastrophic processes in high mountain areas
Falátková, Kristýna ; Janský, Bohumír (advisor) ; Engel, Zbyněk (referee)
Glacial hazards such as ice or rock avalanches, debris flows, jökulhlaups or glacial lake outburst floods threaten lives and livelihoods of people. They may grow to unexpected magnitude, travel very long distances and afflict vast areas. To prevent loss of life and human installation damage, risk analyses need to be assessed for hazardous regions. There are various methods to gain information on slope stability, geology of moraine dam or loose debris availability. They can be divided into those used during terrain on-site research and methods of remote sensing. Based on processed data a risk analysis is created and mitigation measures are carried out if necessary.
