Occupational therapy in pediatric rheumatology

The application of occupational therapy has been explored in pediatric rheumatology, with an emphasis to leisure activities and activities of daily living in junior school children with arthritis. The thesis consists of two parts - a theoretical and a practical section. The theoretical section offers a brief description of occupational therapy and juvenile idiopathic arthritis with a specific attention given to polyarthritis. In addition, this section describes occupational therapy for children with arthritis plus various examinations being used by occupational therapists in these children. (CHAQ (The Childhood Health Assessment Questionnaire), JAHODA (Juvenile Arthritis Multidimensional Assessment Report), grip ability examination and goniometry). The practical section includes six case reports of pediatric patients with arthritis, with a detailed description of leisure activities and activities of daily living. Examination outcomes of children with arthritis have been compared to a control population of five healthy children. This thesis is focused on the possibilities of using kinesiotaping in occupational therapy. The goal of this thesis is to create a manual of Kinesiotaping in therapy of upper limb in pediatrics and its following clinic application for the patients with intended diagnosis. Application of the methods was provided in three different diagnoses. These were brachial plexus palsy, hemiparesis and triparesis. The thesis is divided into the theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part describes the methods of kinesiotaping and it refers to the problems of the individual diagnoses. The practical part uses the qualitative research where three case reports are processed. The case reports contain detailed history, progress of the therapy and the therapy's evaluation. In the thesis kinesiotaping is used individually despite the fact that these methods are just supplementary to the therapy. Use of orofacial stimulation in occupational therapy

This bachelor thesis aims to design examination and therapy the occupational therapist in the orofacial area of selected adults with a neurological diagnosis. The bachelor thesis is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part deals with the anatomy of the orofacial area and related etiology. It outlines the main problems which in this area may occur. Specifically, salivation and swallowing disorders, muscular disorders and communication problems. It also describes the possibility of examination which the occupational therapist has. Finally, this part deals with methods of intervention. The practical part contains the methodology. It contains my proposal for examination and therapy. Examination, which I proposed, is covering various areas of orofacial complex and consists of five parts. Using this examination, we can define the problem with isolated oral movements, identify changes of organ, assess the degree of salivation, swallowing and speech process. The therapeutic unit is composed of the surface and point massage according to the concept of basal stimulation and of exercises for the lips, cheeks and tongue. Sensory Stimulation of Patients with Traumatic Brain Injury in the Acute Stage of Disease

Objectives: The main objective of this bachelor's thesis is to promote the comprehensive utilization of sensory stimulation in Occupational Therapy practice in patients with traumatic brain injury in the acute stage of disease using a Sensory Stimulation Kit. The work is divided into two parts. The first section summarizes the theoretical issues of traumatic brain injury, early rehabilitation of patients with traumatic brain injury, distribution and causes disturbances of consciousness, the various methods and concepts usin element sof sensory stimulation in Occupational Therapy praktice. In the second, practical part of that case reports of patients, in which I used information from clinical documentation, dates from the patient's own observation, description, course of treatment and condition assessment conducted in patients after sensory stimulation throughout the course examiner's investigation using a Sensory Stimulation Kit. It turned out that using sensory stimulation of two patients with traumatic brain injury in the acute stage of illness, had the conditions in which it was implemented, the impact on the health status of patients.
