Comparisson of Python Constructs in Terms of Time and Memory Efficiency
Votroubek, Jan ; Jošth, Radovan (referee) ; Smrž, Pavel (advisor)
Under the simplicity of Python programming language there are some fields hidden where it is easy to make mistake . In this thesis, these fields will be shown and confronted with more effective approach. The difference between effective and ineffective program constructs will be demonstrated clearly.
Information Retrieval in Research Portals
Ďulík, Jan ; Smrž, Pavel (referee) ; Schmidt, Marek (advisor)
This paper deals with the information retrieval in research portals with the intention of the retrieval in scientific publications. We define concepts related to the information retrieval, classification and knowledge representation. We also present existing search tools used as the initial inspiration for the design of the search intergace. Futhermore we describe the implementation as well as the process of collecting sample data. In the last chapter we discuss usability of the developed web application.
Automatic Evaluation of e-Learning Tests
Hort, Jan ; Fapšo, Michal (referee) ; Smrž, Pavel (advisor)
The thesis is dealing with research of automatic evaluation of e-learning tests. That technology is useful for domain of computer aided learning and e-learning and intelligent tutoring systems. This is extending possibility of online testing the student's knowledge. This thesis is also dealing with norms for learning and intelligent tutoring systems. Briefly introduce some project of domain of intelligent tutoring systems.
Information Extraction from Biomedical Texts
Knoth, Petr ; Burget, Radek (referee) ; Smrž, Pavel (advisor)
Recently, there has been much effort in making biomedical knowledge, typically stored in scientific articles, more accessible and interoperable. As a matter of fact, the unstructured nature of such texts makes it difficult to apply  knowledge discovery and inference techniques. Annotating information units with semantic information in these texts is the first step to make the knowledge machine-analyzable.  In this work, we first study methods for automatic information extraction from natural language text. Then we discuss the main benefits and disadvantages of the state-of-art information extraction systems and, as a result of this, we adopt a machine learning approach to automatically learn extraction patterns in our experiments. Unfortunately, machine learning techniques often require a huge amount of training data, which can be sometimes laborious to gather. In order to face up to this tedious problem, we investigate the concept of weakly supervised or bootstrapping techniques. Finally, we show in our experiments that our machine learning methods performed reasonably well and significantly better than the baseline. Moreover, in the weakly supervised learning task we were able to substantially bring down the amount of labeled data needed for training of the extraction system.
Intelligent System for the SSCAI Tournament
Horázný, Václav ; Škoda, Petr (referee) ; Smrž, Pavel (advisor)
In this work I focus on the creation of artificial intelligence to meet the conditions for the competition SSCAI Tournament. It contains the characteristics and gameplay mechanics of the game Starcraft: Brood War, a description of the rules of that competition, usually played kinds of strategies focusing on the Zerg civilization, namely strategy Pool Rush. In the competition I was on a shared 10th and 11th place out of 42 participants. I have created the artificial intelligence for the game Starcraft: Brood War (1.16.1). The work includes the implementation of two agents ScoutManager and DefenseManager. These agents are already connected to created agents of the project BWSAL. I used the development environment Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 (9.0). To launch artificial intelligence it is required to use the program Chaoslauncher and to use libraries BWAPI and BWTA. Work includes comparing my created program with other stakeholders, both in terms of the method of implementation, as well as by specifically chosen strategies.
Word Sense Clustering
Haljuk, Petr ; Otrusina, Lubomír (referee) ; Smrž, Pavel (advisor)
This Bachelor's thesis deals with the semantic similarity of words . It describes the design and the implementation of a system, which searches for the most similar words and measures the semantic similarity of words . The system uses the Word2Vec model from GenSim library . It learns the relations among words from CommonCrawl corpus .
Generating Validation Schemata for XML
Hložek, Bohuslav ; Škoda, Petr (referee) ; Smrž, Pavel (advisor)
The project analyses XML LFM dictionary.  Schematron schema is created and XML with description of attribute values is created. The project is coded in Python 3.4.
Duplicate Text Identification
Pekař, Tomáš ; Kouřil, Jan (referee) ; Smrž, Pavel (advisor)
The aim of this work is to design and implement a system for duplicate text identification. The application should be able to index documents and also searching documents at index. In our work we deal with preprocessing documents, their fragmentation and indexing. Furthermore we analyze methods for duplicate text identification, that are also linked with strategies for selecting substrings. The thesis includes a description of the basic data structures that can be used to index n-grams.

In this technical report theoretical knowledge related to this topic is described as well as the implementation process of a server system and client side application. Part of this thesis is dedicated to testing of the system and in the final part the potential for future development is drafted.
Semantic Similarity of Texts
Bradáč, Václav ; Otrusina, Lubomír (referee) ; Smrž, Pavel (advisor)
This paper deals with the determination of semantic similarity texts, focusing on scalability. Part of treatment is a theoretical overview of the tools to implement the system on test data. Tested corpus contains expert articles in the English language. The aim is to analyze these articles, modified to facilitate the analysis of their semantic analogues. One of the most utilized tools is a representation of data in a vector space model.
