Salieri's Axur Re d'Ormus in Prague 1788

The master thesis deals with the Antonio Salieri's opera Axur, Re d'Ormus and its premiere in 1788 at Nostitz Theatre in Prague. First part of thesis represents source research. On the basis of printed librettos, playbills and periodicals we can observe presence of Salieri's operas in repertory of Prague theaters from 1773 to 1806. Main part of thesis constitute musical and dramatic analysis of Salieri's Axur. This analysis is focused to Prague "version", which represents printed libretto. Musical and textual sources, used in analysis, was furthermore properly investigated. Through mutual comparison was suggested stemma, indicated to relations between these sources and simultaneously to processes, proceeded during transfer of work between particular theaters. I pay attention especially to axis Vienna-Prague-Dresden in period 1788-1789.

Domenico Cimarosa: Il matrimonio segreto in Bohemia

The bachelor thesis deals with the Domenico Cimarosa's Il matrimonio segreto and its premiere in 1792 at Nostitz Theatre in Prague. In the first part of thesis I summarize Cimarosa's life and work. The following chapter of thesis represents characteristics and development of opera buffa in the 18th century and then creation and genesis of Il matrimonio segreto. The work is also examined from the perspective of multiple structures of the libretto and music. In the third chapter the development of opera in Prague during the 18th century is approached and there is also the discussion about the premiere of Il matrimonio segreto. Due to lack of surviving sources, which would come from the late 18th century, however, can not prove most of the necessary information for the reconstruction of the Prague performance of this opera. The last section also provides a list of sources of operas that have survived in Bohemia and made their description. Approach is to form strands, where the opera Il matrimonio segreto is gained wide currency in the Czech lands and capture their deviations from the surviving German scores.

Missa Sancti Joannis Nepomuceni by Jan František Novák

This Bachelor thesis deals with the musical legacy and influence of Jan František Novák as Kapellmeister in st. Vitus Cathedral in Prague between 1737 and 1758. The main object is the analysis of his Missa sancti Joannis Nepomuceni and its framework classification into the context of then sacramental compositions. An integral part of this bachelor thesis is the edition of this mass.

The opera performances in Bratislava 1760

Bachelor's thesis deals with analysis of three Italian opera librettos Il Ciro riconosciuto, Ipermestra and Don Calandrano for opera productions in Bratislava in 1760. This thesis further identifies the authors of music and text. Biographies of performers are discused as well and all the findings of this thesis are being incorporated to the overall context of opera in Bratislava and middle Europe.

Johann Baptist Vanhal's Stabat Mater

The bachelor thesis deals with the Johann Baptist Vanhal's Stabat mater. Thesis put forward project of critical edition of this work and analysis of selected parts in context of Vanhal's sacred works. Thesis is divided into two parts. In first part I summarize Vanhal's life and works, settings of Stabat mater in 18th century and I analyse five parts of Vanhal's Stabat mater. Second separate part of thesis is project of critical edition, based on the sources from the Czech Museum of Music in Prague. This part contains edited musical text and critical report and is not merely an appendix, but principal point of thesis.

Small sacred works by Johann Baptist Wanhal

A list of repositories of petty spiritual pieces of Czech author who lived in the 18th century - Johann Baptist Wanhal - was created based on thematic catalogue of Alexandr Weinmann, international manuscript and RISM prints database, Cumulative music catalogue, and Czech museum of music. An analysis of chosen spiritual pieces was made based on the gathered resources from Prague provenience. Finally, the basic composition characteristics of Wanhal's pieces were determined.

Johann Alois Lamb in the context of musical culture in Bohemia of the second half of the 18. century

This dissertation deals with knowledge about the life and work of Johann Alois Lamb - teacher (Kantor) acting in Vrchlabí from the second half of 18th century until his death in 1820. In attempt to set this personality into the cultural context of his time, the initial interest focuses on important contemporary local phenomena such as passion-plays, the Augustinian monastery, theater societies, the local school, and also the residence of Count Morzin. An independent chapter deals with Lamb's life, his work in school and musical activities. The chapter about his work is dedicated to musical sources, the authenticity of their authorship and provenience of single copies, then followed by a brief analysis of Lamb's composition. The appendix contains the present proposal of the thematic catalogue with lists of questionable and confuted compositions, and also a diplomatic transcription of Lamb's miniature oratorio Der gute Samaritan.

Pasquale Anfossi and Italian opera in Prague

lt was in the first half of 1780s that the theatre at Count Thun's palace hosted the Italian Opera, one of the leading musical institutions of 18th century Prague. And it was this period that saw operas by the ltalian composer Pasquale Anfossi (1727-1797) strongly represented in its repertory. While Anfossi enjoyed success and popularity during ms lifetime, the current awareness of his works is superficial and selective as the interest in ms music has so far been limited mostly to comparison with Mozart due his setting of La finta giardiniera (Rome 1774). The present thesis seeks to shed light on some problematic issues in Anfossi's biography and analyzes his opera lsabella e Rodrigo (Venice 1776, libretto by Giovanni Bertati) produced in Prague in 1783. lsabella e Rodrigo represents a rare variant of the opera buffa featuring an adventure plot with an active female protagonist. In order to avoid forced marriage, Isabella flees her father's house, and at a later point - in Turkish captivity - tries the faithfulness of her fiancé. Compared with other works by Anfossi and his contemporaries, lsabella e Rodrigo seems unexceptional.
