Death Penalty in the People's Republic of China
Vítková, Kristina ; Klimeš, Ondřej (advisor) ; Hudeček, Jiří (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the view on the death penalty problematic in contemporary People's Republic of China from the perspective of the organization China Against Death Penalty (CADP) and its founder, a human rights activist, Dr. Teng Biao. The focal point of this thesis lies particularly on one hand in the analysis of the CADP Report, a document compiled by CADP, which describes the situation tied with potential abolition of the death penalty and discusses the relevant amendments to the criminal law and criminal procedure law, on the other hand in depicting the opinions of Teng Biao and putting them in context with available English written materials on the subject of death penalty in China. The thesis begins with an introduction of Teng Biao and the CADP itself, then describes CADP's view on the current situation around the death penalty and the recent legislative changes concerning the capital punishment. The last part of this thesis speculates about the possible future development of the death penalty in Chinese cultural and legislative environment. This thesis also provides a glossary and a list of capital offences as stipulated by the Criminal Law of the PRC.

Křížková, Romana ; Klimeš, Ondřej (advisor) ; Dluhošová, Táňa (referee)
Thesis abstract This Bachelor Degree Thesis inspects the evolution of attitudes of the Kuomintang (Guomin dang 國民黨) and the Democratic Progressive Party (Minzhu jinbu dang 民主進步 黨) towards Sino-Taiwanese relations (Haixia liang'an guanxi 海峽兩岸關係). The aim of this Bachelor Degree Thesis is to outline the evolution of Sino-Taiwanese relations up to now. To deal with this task this Bachelor Degree Thesis uses the inauguration speeches of presidents (Zongtong jiuzhi yanshuo 總統就職演說) of the Republic of China during the years 1996-2012. The reason why this Thesis is using the rhetoric of inauguration speeches is that in Taiwan the chairman of a political party becomes the president, therefore the speeches he makes do not only represent the opinion of the state highest representative but they also represent the opinion of the political party. By the analysis of inauguration speeches this Thesis wants to observe the trend in the evolution of Sino-Taiwanese relations and outline possibilities of the future development because the escalation of long-term tense relations between the Republic of China and the People's Republic of China could mean a safety threat for the whole region.

Košková, Zuzana ; Klimeš, Ondřej (advisor) ; Lomová, Olga (referee)
CHARTER 08 AND THE STATUS OF PUBLIC INTELLECTUALS IN MODERN PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA ABSTRACT Bachelor Thesis "Charter 08 and the Status of Public Intellectuals in Modern People's Republic of China" is desribing contemporary Chinese dissent associated with manifesto Charter (2008) as public intelectualls who are standing for democratic and liberal values. The thesis is describing historic and social development of Chinese intellectuals stressing their relationship to the system and status of public intellectuals. The thesis describes activities of public intellectuals and ilustrates their status on examples of selected signatories of Charter 08. Particular attention is paid to Liu Xiaobo the main author of the Charter 08. Despite the fact that China is classified as an authoritarian regime that does not allow any opposition, it seems that public intellectuals in China are able to organize themselves and be active in public. This contradicts the concept of vanishing of public intellectuals in postmodern society. The thesis also deals with Charter 77, a manifesto of the Czechoslovak dissidents who inspired the authors of the Chinese Charter. The comparison shows that though both documents were created in a socially and historically distant conditions, both documents and historical situations have many...

By Barbarians Control Barbarians: The Position of Tusi within Area of Liangshan
Karlach, Jan ; Maršálek, Jakub (advisor) ; Klimeš, Ondřej (referee)
English Abstract This M.A. thesis analyses the politics of indirect rule within the peripheral area of Liangshan in southern Sichuan, which the imperial court tried to implement thru appointment of hereditary offices of indigenous chieftains (ch. tusi or tuguan). It uses primary sources in classical Chinese from official histories, local gazetteers, ethnographic studies and other documents, as well as secondary literature in Czech, English, French, German and Chinese. This thesis is divided into three interrelated chapters. The first chapter outlines the origin, changes and development of systems of indirect rule in Southwest China. The final stage of the development this political mechanism was a so-called "native chieftain system" (ch. tusi zhidu), through which the central court managed peripheral regions of its empire during Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. This chapter focuses on the development of these systems of indirect rule from the Warring States era (5th century BC) to the beginning of 20th century. The second chapter explores ethnographic, historico-political and ethnohistorical descriptions of Liangshan region. This chapter will then define the Liangshan region through geographical, political (the imperial court), and indigenous (ethnic) perspectives and therefore finalizes a theoretical...

Environmental Protection in the People's Republic of China
Vacková, Pavla ; Klimeš, Ondřej (advisor) ; Hudeček, Jiří (referee)
The purpose of this paper is to provide a comprehensive overview of the environmental protection in the People`s republic of China. My paper has two introductory chapters describing the geography of China, China's most pressing environmental problems and basic political concept of environmental protection. The empirical part of my thesis approaches the legal system of the PRC, introduces the most important legal codexes, particularly the section relevant for environment protection. This introduction is then followed by an overview of the most important laws of environmental legislature. The examination reveals that China is taking comprehensive measures in the field of environmental protection in both the political and legal documents, but it is too soon to evaluate the effectiveness of those measures, or rather the effectiveness of their enforcement. Analysis of the liquid flow with the trajectory of the spatial spiral shape
Klimeš, Ondřej ; Čermák, Libor (referee) ; Fialová, Simona (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with the expression of differential operators gradient, divergence, curl and Laplace operator in orthogonal curvilinear coordinates. The formulas for cylindrical coordinate system are derived. Further, liquid flow with a trajectory of spatial spiral shape is analyzed, for which the Navier-Stokes equations are derived. Finally, three examples of potential flow in the plane are solved in the areas described by polar and elliptical coordinates. The calculation is done numerically by the final differences method in MATLAB.
