Plachetka, Adam ; BÁRTA, Martin (advisor) ; HAJÓSSYOVÁ, Magdaléna (referee)
I have chosen the subject of my thesis because of my extensive professional experience in the operative performance of Mozart`s opera Don Giovanni. I consider Don Giovanni and its title role character one of the most interesting topics in the whole of opera. In my thesis I have focused on the questions surrounding the interpretation of Don Giovanni. My observations are based on my own experience of performing in this opera in several productions at numerous prestigious European opera houses, as well as on the opinions of my more experienced and highly skilled colleagues. I have divided my thesis into the following chapters: Synopsis of the Opera with Focus on the title hero, Relationships of Don Giovanni with the Other Characters, Psychology of Don Giovanni and Don Giovanni in Modern European Productions. In the appendix one can find full interviews on Don Giovanni with Gerald Finley and Christopher Maltman.
Giuseppe Verdi : Otello : Prague and Pilsen production
Karásek, Jan ; Kusnjer, Ivan (advisor) ; Hajóssyová, Magdaléna (referee)
The last opera but one by Giuseppe Verdi, Otello, does not belong to often performed ones in the Czech Republic. Despite this fact there were several successful production of Otello in the last years. To these good ones belong Pilsen production ( The Josef Kajetán Tyl Theatre, 2007) a Prague production ( Prage State Opera 2009). In Otello, Verdi´s masterpiece (premiere 1987 in La Scala, Milan), the composer applied new approach.Contrary to former numbered scenes he created complex interweaving of all opera components. As a theme served Shakespeare´s tragedy that remains actual even after four hundred years. Yet Verdi and his librettist Arrigo Boito changed the story a bit - or adapted it to the opera scenes to be more precise. All this was successfully capitalized by directors of both above mentioned productions Ladislav Štros in Pilsen and Lubor Cukr in Prague.Prague production, which was a renewed production of the successful one from 1991, was distinguished by a brief, pure scene, which catalyzed the characters and the singer´s performace. Even though the performace or the singers in Pilsen production was not always meeting the Prague standards, the scene was richer and the stylization fitted the director´s intentions. Both productions were well appreciated both by experts and by the audience. The fact they were performed for several years can serve as a proof.

Hugo Wolf - Life and Works ( Focus on Vocal Works)
Pochmanová, Sonja ; Hajóssyová, Magdaléna (advisor) ; Přívratská, Jiřina (referee)
In my thesis entitled "Hugo Wolf - Life and Works ( Focus on Vocal Works)" readers can learn about one of the most significant song authors of the 19th century. Hugo Wolf´s significance is often marginalized. Maybe for the complexity and demands of his works less interprets prefer to choose songs of Wolf than for example songs of Schubert. The aim of this thesis is to spread the knowledge about this outstanding composer and to wake up an interest in the interpretation of his wonderful, sensitive and expressive songs. The chapters divided according to Wolf´s life and creative periods deal with Wolf´s complicated but interesting personality. From the opening chapters readers can learn about Wolf´s native town, which he kept visiting throughout his life to meet his family, about the composer´s difficult beginnings with his studies of music caused mainly by his inadaptability and stubbornness. Hugo Wolf lived only 43 years, however, during this time he managed to compose an enormous number of songs, he completed one opera as well as numerous orchestral and chamber compositions, and thus he deserves the attention of professional interpreters. However, there is no literature about Hugo Wolf written or translated into the Czech language. Thus, I hope that this thesis might serve to those who are interesred to get more acquainted with works of this outstanding composer.
