Testing of Device for DoS Attack Protection
Burzala, Matúš ; Vrána, Roman (referee) ; Kučera, Jan (advisor)
This thesis deals with testing of a device for (D)DoS protection DCPRO, that is developed within the CESNET association. The aim of the thesis was to design and implement an extendable testing system, which would allow automated testing of DCPRO device. In addition to the testing system, there was created a collection of tests for verification of functional and performance parameters of the device within the thesis. Afterwards, the developed system was integrated into a continuous integration system Jenkins. Particularly within the thesis there were created 109 specific test scenarios to test device firmware modules, 7 throughput test scenarios, 10 test scenarios to verify proper functionality of software modules dedicated to SYN Flood and amplification attacks protection, and one test for verification of device network routing ability. The developed testing system is easily extensible. In order to simplify a future extension of the system, there is a created template encapsulated in source files for new test creation and text part of the thesis contains guide how to create new tests.
The Analysis of Databases Suitable for IoT Environment
Kohout, Petr ; Vrána, Roman (referee) ; Kořenek, Jan (advisor)
In recent years, the volume of data stored in applications of all types has increased. As the volume of data grows, the demands on databases increase. The classic relational databases are no longer suitable. Therefore, it is switching to new, non-relational storage (called NoSQL). During this work, NoSQL databases focusing on processing large data volumes were analyzed and compared for their performance and system requirements. In addition, requirements for new sensor data storage for IoTCloud project were specified. Driver for database Cassandra was implemented and integrated into the IoTCLoud project.
The DPDK DNS Probe Application Extension
Doležal, Pavel ; Kučera, Jan (referee) ; Vrána, Roman (advisor)
This master's thesis is focused on extension of the DPDK DNS Probe application that monitors DNS traffic in high speed networks. It presents framework DPDK, which can be used for fast packet processing. General architecture of the DNS system is described as well as details of its components. Basic principles of transport protocol TCP are described. It introduces an effective design and implementation of DNS packet parsing to optimize DPDK DNS Probe's performance. It also introduces a design and implementation of processing DNS messages sent over TCP for export of traffic statistics. The application's performance was tested using a high speed traffic generator Spirent.
Netdev Driver for Acceleration COMBO Cards
Tran, Dominik ; Vrána, Roman (referee) ; Kučera, Jan (advisor)
This thesis deals with the development of the network device driver for the FPGA network COMBO cards, which should enable receiving and sending packets through standard network interface of Linux kernel. CESNET is developing a device called DDoS Protector for protection against an amplification (D)DoS attacks, which uses COMBO cards to achieve high performance. A SZE2 interface is used for high speed transfers of network data between COMBO card and a controlling software application, using technique of bypassing kernel network stack and other methods. DDoS Protector has to support standard network protocols, whose implementation directly on top of the SZE2 is very difficult. Instead, using kernel network stack, which is, by default, bypassed to achieve high performance, is much easier to implement and supports all sorts of protocols. Creation of the network device driver enables us to use kernel network stack and other network applications for COMBO cards. Based on the study of SZE2 interface and driver development, I designed and then successfully implemented network device driver. Driver was tested to ensure standard protocols work. It was also tested from the performance point of view. I have also developed the same type of driver for the newer interface - NDP and an application for an accelerated packet forwarding, both of which are functional and were not part of the thesis specification.
Network Traffic Analysis Using NXP Processor and FPGA
Orsák, Michal ; Vrána, Roman (referee) ; Kořenek, Jan (advisor)
The primary goal of this thesis is to exploit possibilites of aa entirely new hardware based on NXP LS2088 and FPGA. The secondary goal is to create firmware for this processor working out-of-box and perform optimisations of existing software for L7 analysis. This software was deeply bound to a previous hardware platform. The network processor NXP LS2088 contains many hardware accellerators and a virtual reconfigurable network. This thesis exploits all hardware parts of on this platform. Many tweaks and optimizations were performed based on this analysis to achieve maximum efficieny of software for L7 analysis. There were many intensive optimisations like rewriting for the DPDK library and new hardware or hardware synchronization of worker threads of this application. The main result of this thesis is working platform with efficient L7 analysis software which actively uses accelerators in FPGA and NXP network processor. SDK for new platform is also prepared.
International Alphabets in Network Traffic Monitoring
Talašová, Irena ; Vrána, Roman (referee) ; Polčák, Libor (advisor)
This work deals with the implementation of support for network identifiers containing national characters in the SProbe software project, which is designed to monitor network flows. It was necessary to test and evaluate the status of selected network applications working over SMTP, POP3, IMAP, FTP or SIP protocols. On the basis of the information obtained, an extension of the current software project SProbe was proposed - a module to support network traffic monitoring with national alphabet characters. The proposed solution was then implemented and the functionality of the entire resulting system was tested. In addition, this work proposes and implements a modification of the test environment for faster and more efficient testing of the system focusing on tests containing diacritics.
Traffic Shaping in High Speed Networks in DPDK
Doležal, Pavel ; Fukač, Tomáš (referee) ; Vrána, Roman (advisor)
This bachelor thesis is focused on traffic shaping in high speed networks. It presents framework DPDK, which can be used for fast packet processing. General traffic shaping mechanisms are described as well as traffic shaping in Linux using program tc. It also introduces a design and implementation of traffic shaper using DPDK framework for networks with 10 Gbps bandwidth. The traffic shaper uses a complex mechanism of hierarchical token bucket. The system was tested using high speed traffic generator Spirent.
Testing of high-speed tool for network address translation
Vrána, Roman ; Grégr, Matěj (referee) ; Žádník, Martin (advisor)
This master thesis presents a topic of testing network address translation. It describes basic principles of network address translation and general methods for testing network devices. These methods are then applied on NAT devices. Thesis then introduces a design of a  framework for performing functional tests. The designed framework is then implemented as a part of the thesis and used to test a newly developed high-speed NAT application.
Advanced Tools for Legal Interception on Network Probe
Vrána, Roman ; Polčák, Libor (referee) ; Bartoš, Václav (advisor)
This thesis describes design and implementation of one of the parts of lawful interception system for intercepting network traffic. Designed system will be used for processing traffic with at maximum throughput of 100 Gbps. Resulting system will use hardware acceleration with Software Defined Monitoring (SDM) features. Software itself is designed to be able to process as many netwrok frames as possible even without hardware acceleration.
