Convergence of the Czech Republic to the European Union
Pešková, Jana ; Kučerová, Irah (advisor) ; Černoch, Jakub (referee)
This thesis deals with an analysis of the convergence of the Czech Republic to the first fifteen member states of the European Union. The aim of this thesis is to evaluate different types of resources that are available for the Czech Republic from the European Union and if and to what extent the development levels of the Czech Republic and the EU 15 countries come closer. The first part of this thesis describes resources provided by the European Union to its member states and funds used to their allocation. The second part focuses on drawing of these resources by the Czech Republic. Specifically, the amount of resources allocated to the Czech Republic is described and the ability of the Czech Republic to use them is analyzed. The third part, core of this work, concentrates on an analysis of several fundamental development indicators. Main indicators of both nominal and real convergence are evaluated, as well as the Human Development Index. These indicators are applied on both the Czech Republic and the EU 15 countries, they are compared and the level of the convergence between the two units is evaluated. The Developement of Economic Cooperation between EU and USA since the end of the Cold War
Paščenková, Jana ; Kučerová, Irah (advisor) ; Karlas, Jan (referee)
in English This thesis deals with the factors that influence changing intensity of bilateral economic cooperation between EU and USA in the period between 2002 and 2012. The quantitative tests by correlation are made separately for the trade and the financial area of cooperation. The first tested factor was the economic interdependence of EU and USA, which is based on liberal thoughts in international relations. Its positive influence on cooperation that was assumed for this factor was confirmed only in case of the financial area. On the other hand, for the trade sphere the premise was disproved. The second tested factor was formulated based on realism in international relations. It says that decreasing economic standing of EU and USA leads to their increased cooperation. This influence was confirmed both for trade and financial cooperation. The last researched factor was the annual change in the volume of transactions. This factor is based on functionalism, neofunctionalism and communication theory. The assumed positive influence of increased transactions on cooperation was confirmed only in trade dimension. The best factor that can explain the changing bilateral economic cooperation of EU and USA between 2002 and 2012 proved to be the one based on realism - the declining standing of both subjects...
Influence of international energy security on exploitation of unconventional sources of gas and oil in the Euro-Atlantic area
Havránková, Magdaléna ; Kučerová, Irah (advisor) ; Binhack, Petr (referee)
The diploma thesis "Influence of international energy security on shale gas mining in euro-atlantic area" deals with the possibility of developing commercial shale gas mining operations in Europe. Due to increase of gas consumption in Europe and without Europe's own sufficient production, its dependence on gas imports is growing, especially on the imports from Russian Federation. Although thanks to the development of LNG natural gas could become a global commodity in the future, the natural gas markets still maintain a regional character for the moment. This situation could be used for political objectives by some actors, such as Russia's temporary suspension of gas imports to Europe in 2006 and 2009. As a reaction to development of commercial unconventional shale gas production in USA, some of the EU members turned their attention to their own shale gas deposits in order to bolster their energy security. The stance of the individual countries differs however, with some of the countries imposing research moratoria (France, Bulgaria, Czech Republic), while some other countries expressing significant interest in the research of possible production on their territory (United Kingdom, Poland). The thesis is primarily concerned with analysis of the relation between development of international relations...

International Monetary Fund: Trends in the Scope of Activity in 1989-2014
Szabo, Jakub ; Parízek, Michal (advisor) ; Kučerová, Irah (referee)
The main goal of this bachelor thesis is to evaluate possible ideological changes inside the IMF in the time period from 1989 to 2014. This goal is achieved by examining annual reports published by the IMF, with attention on the most important tools of the IMF. Issues discussed through the IMF's surveillance and conditionality are the main indicator of possible reforms and changes. Based on the existent literature and example of the reform of the World Bank four hypotheses are formulated. Those hypotheses are dedicated to monitoring changes in perceived importance of welfare state, small government, good governance and fiscal policy. Firstly, current literature is presented with definition of the main concepts used in this thesis. Secondly, important tools of the IMF are described. Thirdly, collected data is described and this thesis concludes with data evaluation. With application of the methods of descriptive statistics and content analysis this thesis concludes with statement, that important shift from emphasis on weak state to strong state occurred and good governance became important theme of IMF's interest. However importance of the theme fiscal policy persisted.
The Development of BRICS position in the International Monetary Fund Decision-Making
Gajdoš, Michal ; Parízek, Michal (advisor) ; Kučerová, Irah (referee)
This work tries to stress a voting underrepresentation of BRICS countries in the IMF. In the Executive Board of the IMF, what is the most important decision body, there is a voting weight derived from the economic performance of the country. Even though BRICS countries have increased their economic performance in last decades notably, this economic performance has not been transformed into voting weight in the Executive Board of IMF. At the first section I illuminated a function of the IMF and a formula of voting weight that calculates economic power into voting weight. I made an investigation over all variables in this formula and I evaluated dubious composition of the formula. At the second section I compared the dynamics of economic growth on the one hand and the development of voting weight on the other hand. The selection is wide, I compared developed countries, developing (BRICS) and underdeveloped. To do so, I demonstrated various dynamics of growth on the both sides and therefore I was able to conclude which country is underrepresented and which overrepresented in the IMF.

Corporate tax rates: A new area of international cooperation?
Hrušč, Erik ; Parízek, Michal (advisor) ; Kučerová, Irah (referee)
This thesis analyses the potential for international cooperation in the issue of corporate tax rates. Using newly created dataset we study the relationship between the foreign direct investments and corporate tax rates in order to confirm that countries benefit from competing in setting their tax rates. Lowering one's corporate tax rate pays off in increased FDI. Furthermore, under the assumption that competitive behavior is individually rational, we analyze through the use of coherent country clusters the extent of competition within selected clusters, as compared to the situation on the global level. We find that the degree of competitive behavior is lower within coherent block of countries than globally. Thus, there seems to be less mutually harmful competition within coherent clusters of countries, mainly in EU 15, OECD and ASEAN, than on the global level.
Comparison of energy security of the Czech and Slovak republic
Haringová, Ingrida ; Kučerová, Irah (advisor) ; Binhack, Petr (referee)
The main objective of this thesis is to compare energy security of the Czech and Slovak republic. The comparison is done through the energy mix and the diversification of energy commodities' sources (coil, oil, natural gas, nuclear energy/fuel and renewable sources). The sustainable development and commitments to the European Union are taken into account. The author uses the state documents, The Update of State Energy Concept of CR and The Proposal of Energy Policy of SR, and from foreign and domestic statistical documents. Review of energy sources is done through its part in the energy mix, data about sources in the energy mix, data about sources' homeland occurrence, but also import and about the shorterm trends in their usage. In the theoretical part of the work, the author studies the concept of energy security in two theoretical concepts, liberalism and realism and then studies its polysemic nature.
