The design and realization of a tool for an efficiency improvement of teaching Geography and the tool evaluation
Plevová, Petra ; Fialová, Dana (advisor) ; Matějček, Tomáš (referee)
The main goal of this diploma thesis is to create a tool for an efficiency improvement of teaching Geography at a grammar school, which is based on several criteria. The tool is then tested in practice and its impact on students' geographical knowledge is evaluated. The work is conceptually divided into two main parts. The first of them introduces fieldwork as is generally known and construed, because the tool is based on some of the fieldwork principles and is realized outside the school building. An analysis of Czech curricular documents is not omitted in the text. The second, more voluminous part deals with practical issues. The main part presents a concept of a particular field teaching and a description of its following implementation. Subsequently, a tool, which was used to measure the effectiveness of the realized fieldwork, is described in the text. The results of the survey and the overall assessment are concluded at the end of this thesis. Key words: tool - geography - Geography field teaching - effectiveness - testing
Assessment of landscape fragmentation in relation to long-distance migration
Šťovíčková, Kateřina ; Romportl, Dušan (advisor) ; Matějček, Tomáš (referee)
This thesis deals with the fragmentation of the landscape as a result of highway infrastructure and human settlement. The aim is to analyze the current level of fragmentation and permeability of the landscape for large mammals in the region of Moravska Brana, which is a significant migration area between the West Carpathian and Hercynian sub-provinces. The results confirm the increased degree of fragmentation in this area due to the accumulation of several line barriers from the Northeast to the Southwest, and it particularly shows the negative impact of Highway D1. By comparing the degree of fragmentation with supra- regional corridors, this thesis evaluates the Territorial system of ecological stability (TSES) and the habitat model of large carnivores. This thesis shows that the current migration corridors provide only a fragmented landscape with unsuitable habitat. While making a comprehensive analysis of the permeability of the D1 motorway, the effectiveness of the migration corridor between Klimkovice and Dolni Ujezd was evaluated with an emphasis on monitoring the ecoduct of Suchdol nad Odrou, which is used primarily by medium-sized mammals. The results show that large mammals in this area have found the most appropriate migration corridor a long elevated road through the river valleys. Key...
Geography field teaching and measuring its effectiveness
Plevová, Petra ; Fialová, Dana (advisor) ; Matějček, Tomáš (referee)
The diploma thesis is focused on the topic of geographical fieldwork and measuring of this teaching method effectiveness. It is based on the generally known hypothesis that field teaching is more effective than teaching in the school environment. The work is conceptually divided into two main parts. The first of them presents theoretical background of the given topic due to a search of specialized articles and books. The results of the survey are concluded at the end of this thesis. Shaping of Students' Attitudes in Geographical Education - The Issue of Ips Typographus Outbreaks
Faflák, Jiří ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Hanus, Martin (referee)
Shaping of students' attitudes in geographical education - the issue of Ips typographus outbreaks Abstract The diploma thesis deals with shaping the students' attitudes by utilising various texts during the geography classes. This experiment is shown on particular problem of Spruce Bark Beetle in the National Park of Šumava. There are two main streams towards this issue of Spruce Bark Beetle-one of them promotes the idea of incorporating the human intervention, while reducing the disaster, the other follows the opposite attitude towards the outbreak of the Spruce Bark Beetle, and that is not to intervene at all and to leave the destructed vegetation to regenerate. The backbone of the thesis is represented by a survey that aims at finding attitudes towards the problem mentioned above. Moreover, the survey also questions the way the attitudes change depending on critical reading of distinctive texts. Two main questions are posed in this research. The results are graphically depicted and commented upon in the thesis. The research shows the extent to which it is possible to influence the students' opinion utilising quality study texts. Key words: Spruce Bark Beetle (Ips typographus), National park Šumava, Spruce Bark Beetle outbreak, geographical education, critical thinking, active reading, shaping of attitudes
Topographical concepts at different levels of education
Aronová, Magdaléna ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Hátle, Jan (referee)
Topographical concepts at different levels of education Keywords: topographical concepts, teaching topographical concepts, regional geography, mental maps of pupils, quantitative research - survey, qualitative research - structured interviews. The aim of this diploma thesis is a comparison of pupils' knowledge of topographical concepts at various levels of education, specifically in primary schools and corresponding grades in grammar schools in the Karlovy Vary Region. In the first part is presenting a brief excursion into the history of regional geography as a science. The following extensive chapter is dealing with general concepts, topographical concepts and their selection and application for teaching. The practical part of thesis includes my own research as a quantitative research survey among pupils of different types of schools and qualitative research in the form of structured interviews. These interviews were aimed at geography teachers and future teachers qualified to teach geography. Main results of quantitative research were summarized in the set of six aggregated mental maps of pupils from each type of school. In conclusion of thesis there is an evaluation of survey results compared with geography teachers' opinions.

This thesis deals with quality evaluation ofr ecological educational programmes that can be used to supplement high school Geography curricula. It focuses on a selection of ecological education centers offering these programmes in Prague and central Bohemia. Only the centers that allowed for observing their lessons and seminars were included in the thesis. This thesis contains details about various of these programmes and their topics and aims, along with an analysis pointing at which skills these programmes are designed to develop. The main goal of this thesis is to evaluate what various educational centers have to offer as far as geography oriented courses are concerned. Next, the thesis strives to ascertain which activies in particular ecological programmes are geography oriented and what skills do they develop. Apart from other things, the thesis provides information about running programmes. Those are evaluated using structured charts. This thesis is a continuation of my bachelor's project where I checked offers of all available ecology education centres in the Czech Republic and searched for programmes that could be used when teaching Geohraphy. These programmes were sorted and noted in a chart - this could enable Geography teacher to choose the best prorgamme for their class. This thesis is...
Assesment of landscape permeability - example of Prague highway bypass
Štambergová, Barbora ; Romportl, Dušan (advisor) ; Matějček, Tomáš (referee)
Permeability of the landscape is crucial for the survival of many species. However, nowadays is quickly increasing the landscape fragmentation and the connectivity of landscape elements is decreasing. Fragmentation of the landscape is mainly affected by road constructions, which cause even other significant ecological impacts. In connection with recovery of the permeability of the landscape are therefore made these line barriers often passable. Construction of the road over- and under- passes is common measure, but the remaining question is if constructions of these objects help to achieve required measures. The practical part of this thesis is therefore focused on analysis of selected passageways of Prague highway bypass and on the evaluation of their using. Keywords: Landscape fragmentation, landscape permability, ecoducts, mitigation measures
