Depiction of problematic childhood in a tale-prore of the 1990's (A report on thematic and innovative literature for children)

The Graduation theses reviews imaging of being an outsider, handicap and family difficulties in prose with child character. It focuses on the front writer's pieces of children's literature written in 1990s. Introductory chapter applies to the Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Together with other specialized literature this theory presents a basis for authors of the children's literature. It allows them to understand children (and human generally) behavior which helps them to describe it in a more realistic way. The following chapters are devoted to the comparison of books where the main character and his companions face many adverse circumstances. Attention was paid to methods which had been used to present the topics to the reades - particular compositional methods, used means of narrator, language instruments etc.
Story of Mateřídouška

The dissertation concentrates on the historical development of Mateřídouška, the oldest czech belletristic periodical destined for children. The main effort was to study Mateřídouška in wide context from the period of the creation in 1945 till the actual form. On the one hand this periodical associate closely with a specific domestic political situation in the second half of the 20th century and a post-revolution released time when the commercial interests entered in children's literature. On the other hand the periodical focuses on artistic contribution both in the sphere of prose and poetry, and in comics, illustration and general graphic art as well. The dissertation tries to express the intentions of the editorial office in individual periods and in this context the position of a child reader as well. The literary periodical represent the important attribute of children's reading development and therefore child personality in general.
Intermediality in the children's book (on examples of works of Petr Nikl, František Skála, Květa Pacovská and Petr Šmalec)

This thesis deals with intermedial play with words and pictures in author's book for children and teens. In he first theoretical chapter, reader learns the specific attributes of literature for children and teenagers from the literary and art point of view, it means he will get to know rules of the play with word and picture and their functions in the literature for children and teenagers. Second chapter is dedicated to the game, the basic attributes of the game and game in the literature for the children and teenagers that is best represented by the intermediate author's book, by a book-toy. These are the books that unite words and pictures in one artistic complex, to which the play with sound is added. Electronic media take sometimes part in the game as well. Third chapter is dedicated to the concrete examples of words', pictures' and creative games' connection made by authors of books for children and teenagers. These books are represented with the works of Petr Nikl. František Skála. Petr Šmalc and Květa Pacovská. The main point of this thesis was finding attributes and components of game in the intermedial writing for children and teenagers, through which is the personality of the individuum formed. The comicality in children's song lyrics of Zdeněk Svěrák

This Diploma thesis is about the comicality in children's song lyrics o f Zdeněk Svěrák. Introductory chapters attend to questions of comicality. Comicality is firstly presented as a philosophical problem. There are described different conceptions of comicality and finally theories o f comicality by theirselves. Next sections deal with substance of language and thematic comicality. Fundamental part of thesis consists in analysis of comicality in children lyrics of Zdeněk Svěrák. The attention is mainly concentrated on distinctive language comicality of the author. Following chapters attend to comicality in music. That means: how the music of Jaroslav Uhlíř influences the comicality in children's song lyrics of Zdeněk Svěrák. The end of thesis points out that children's song lyrics of Zdeněk Svěrák are very individual and that they are full o f comicality, which can fascinate children readers.
Death in Children's Literature. The matter of Space

The diploma thesis Death in Children's Literature - The Matter of Space compares the work of Astrid Lindgren and Iva Procházková. In the theoretical part the author explains the place of both writers within the literature for children and deals with reviews of both books. Next part is focused on fantastic features in literature and on the matter of space. Possible existing sources of further study are mentioned here. Theoretical knowledge is applied in the following part dealing with analysis o f both books that is aimed at picturing the "real" and fantastic world and the transfer between them. The last part is a comparison of the authors' approach to death in children's literature concerning the matter of space. Possible causes of differences are mentioned here.
Fantastic Features in Children's Literature by Roald Dahl

The thesis deals with fantastic features in children's literature by Roald Dahl, concretely it deals with the combination o f realistic and fantastic features. It concentrates on thematic elements, which build up or are concerned in making fantastic magical characters, places, things and plots in Dahl's works (e. g. The Witches, James and Giant Peach, The BFG, The Twits, Charlie and Chocolate Factory). It compares mentioned thematic elements with folklore fantastic fairy-tale and it searches their common aspects as well. Especially, it deals with the function o f thematic elements in the texts, their impact on recipients and author's intention. It also includes a brief summary o f Dahl's biography and a short list o f his works, especially focused on the works which were primarily written for children. Moreover, in this thesis there is also a chapter describing the term fantastic fiction from different points o f view in order to specify the term fantastic feature. The aim o f this thesis is to define Roald Dahl's poetics on the basis o f the combination o f realistic and fantastic features.

Diplomová práce Židovství a češství v díle Viktora Fischla pohlíží na vybraná díla tohoto spisovatele s akcentem na problematiku židovství a češství. Věnuje se tvorbě člověka, jenž musel dvakrát emigrovat z rodné země, a zamýšlí se nad tím, jak jako syn židovských rodičů ve svém díle vlastní židovství reflektoval. Po úvodní části Dva domovy Viktora Fischla věnované autorově biografii je v tematickém oddílu Básník Viktor Fischl představena Fischlova poezie. Práce nahlíží na rozdíly mezi sbírkami, které básník napsal před válkou v Čechách a za války v emigraci. V části Prozaik Viktor Fischl je zachyceno autorovo hledání Boha tváří v tvář holocaustu. V povídkách zasazených do koloritu svatého města odhaluje, jak se autor dotýká židovské mentality, židovských zvyků a obyčejů a neopomíjí ani soudobou otázku napětí mezi Židy a Palestinci. The dictate of beauty as a subject-matter in the prose with a teenage heroine

The thesis is focused on the genre o f literature for girls. It examines how the dictate of beauty is reflected in the novels for girls and what changes were made in this matter during the last fifty years. The thesis gives an overview of topics that appear regularly in novels, of the thematic development of the genre and of the changes that occurred during the last five decades. A significant part is devoted to a character, its composition and transformation, as well as to the effect of beauty, which is reflected in how the character is perceived. The thesis is completed by an analysis of the display of beauty in specific works of A. Santarová, I. Hercíková, S. Rudolf and L. Lanczová. In order to illustrate the current average reader o f this literature genre for girls, the analysis of a questionnaire submitted at a secondary school, a high school and at the forum of Lenka Lanczová's website is added.
The Means of Humor and Irony in Children's Literature by Lemonyho Snicketa and Roalda Dahla

The thesis deals with aspects of humor, concretely with means of humor in children's literature by Lemony Snicket (series called The Series of Unfortunate Events) and Roald Dahl {The Witches, James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG). It deals with the choice and use of these means in order to cause humorous effect. It analyses the means of humor in categories of situation and language, also including the translation difficulties. Concerning the means of language, it deals with the category of sound and graphics (e.g.articulatory problems, onomatopoeic sounds and their graphic recording), of lexis, of syntax and additionally it defines figurative descriptions (e.g. comparison, oxymoron, etc.). The author also includes the issue of using verses in children's literature. Moreover, the paper deals with irony and absurdity and their humorous effect in this type of literature. It also includes a brief summary of both authors' biographies relevant to their following works. The aim of the thesis was especially to define the individual means of humor used by mentioned authors and to state, what the difference between the means used by them is.
National Tribunal with Karel Sabina in a New Perspective of Unpublished Archival Dokuments

Následující práce je věnována archivním dokumentům, které dosud zůstávaly mimo pozornost badatelů. Jde o fond Zemského soudu trestního ve Státním oblastním archivu Praha, kde jsou dochovány protokoly ze soudního vyšetřování onoho "národního soudu" z 30. července 1872. Karel Sabina totiž tehdy požádal policii a soud o ochranu před' "terorismem" účastníků tohoto soudu. Protože průběh zmíněného národního soudu byl dosud znám pouze z podání Jakuba Arbesa napsaného zřejmě podle vzpomínek některých z jeho účastníků, stojí za to je konfrontovat se zjištěními soudu a autentickými výpověďmi účastníků, učiněnými krátce po oné události.
