The women writers of Tornio valley

This Master thesis is focused on the womenwriters of Tornio Valley in Finland (Tornionlaakso in Finnish) and their works. The beginning of thesis is to represent main points and aspects of history and culture of this area. Also the period of the Finnish War was mentioned. As one of results of this war, the eastern provinces of Sweden were established as the autonomous Grand Duchy of Finland within Imperial Russia in 1809. The new Swedish-Russian borderline appeared to be in Tornio Valley dividing these lands to the Finnish and Swedish parts: Tornio Valley and Swedish Tornedalen. But regarding the language and culture these two parts mostly are taken as one province, though the main goal of this work is to represent condition of culture and literature there as well. Local language is also a point of interest. Despite the fact of separation, on both banks of the Tornio River the local dialect of Finnish language - so-called "Tornio Valley Finnish", also known as meänkieli (lit. our language) - was kept. In Sweden it is assumed to be a separated language, whereas for Finns it's a dialect. Also a church movement - pietism - is mentioned in this work, as a significant phenomena of local and all-Finnish spiritual culture, described by Tornio Valley authors.

The forms of original contemporary Finnish drama in the period of years 1995-2007

My master's thesis' goal is to introduce the contemporary Finnish drama to that Czech and Slovak speaking reader, who might be interested in Finland and its culture. The emphasis of my master's thesis is the theme of the contemporary Finnish drama and its placement into a broader social context. Whilst the contemporary Finnish drama is a broad term, I first had to determine the corpus of my investigation. I have decided to limit the time period by the year 1995, when Finland seemed to definitelly get over the grievous economical crisis of the early 1990s and became a member of the European Union, the upper boarder was the present years of writing the thesis, that is 2007/2008. Then, I only deal with the dramas originally written in Finnish language, thus there are some remarkable Finnish Swedish playwrights missing from this master's thesis. On the grounds of genre and originality of the dramatic texts I have decided not to be concerned with any other texts than the original dramatic texts such as adaptations of prosaic works, benefitions, poetic montages, musicals, etc. On the basis of target group I have excluded the plays for young and fairy tales. A prose Ill-used by life in the context of naturalism - a supplement of diploma thesis Juhani Aho and the analysis of his work Alone

This ngorous thesis represents a complement of my diploma thesis, where I particularly concentrate on Finnish naturalism both at the close of the 19th century and at present. Contemporary Finnish researcher Riikka Rossi has created a model to describe late 19th-century literature in Finland. It consists of three modes of decay: dynamic, tragic and static entropy. My thesis has dealt with all these forms of naturalism. To demonstrate naturalist features in Finnish literature I ha ve choosen Aho 's pro se Maailman murjoma (Ill-used by Lije, 1894 ), which was formerly classified as a realist work. Juhani Aho was with the realists' endeavors clo sely connected: he wished to describe the reality he saw and felt faithfully and without embellishment, and he was alert to notice the changes brought by the new times - but there is also doubt whether the new is always better after all. In his work Rautatie the disappointment of the old couple leaves a melancholy aftertaste and in Maailman murjoma the railroad and the train destroy the life of a simple countryman. According to Riikka Rossi Maailman murjoma is a prototypical example of tragic entropy. Her model of entropies demonstrates that many literary works previously classified as realist can be nowadays interpreted as naturalist - Aho 's pro se Maailman murjoma...

The thesis entitled Ancient Greek Literature in Finland concentrates on translations of Ancient Greek literature in Finland from the eldest times till present. The thesis monitors teaching of ancient Greek at Finnish secondary schools and universities from the beginnings till 1918 and handles the position of the most important translators of Ancient Greek literature on generally conceived Finnish cultural, literary and political field.

Juhani Aho and the analysis of his work "Alone"

tvorby Juhaniho Aha- především analýza jeho prózy Osamělý. Z Ahova pestrého životopisu je patrné, že ke své spisovatelské a novinářské dráze směřoval již od útlého mládí. Tento plodný autor se ve své tvorbě věnoval rozličným otázkám a tématům z nejrůznějších sfér lidského bytí a nahlížel je svým osobitým pohledem. Vedle toho je rovněž zajímavé, že Juhani Aho obsáhl svým vývojem několik uměleckých směrů - realismus, náznaky naturalismu, francouzské introspektivní proudy, novoromantismus a novorealismus. Primárním záměrem této práce byl již zmiňovaný rozbor díla Osamělý, na jehož základě jsem dospěla k podnětným závěrům. Úvodem své diplomové práce jsem považovala za nutné vyřešit nejprve dilema týkající se jednak autobiografičnosti zmiňované prózy, jednak jejího žánrového zařazení. V prvním případě jsem se na Ahovo dílo pokusila aplikovat poznatky francouzského literárního vědce Philippa Lejeuna a dospěla jsem k závěru, že prózu Osamělý nelze v jeho pojetí označovat jako čistou autobiografii. V souvislosti s žánrovým označením díla jsem se rozhodla vycházet z finské poetiky a na prózu Osamělý odkazovat termínem pienoisromaani - "malý román". Czech literature in Finland (1993-2004)

Hlavním cílem mé diplomové práce bylo sestavit bibliografický seznam děl české literatury vydaných vobdobí 1993-2004, a především zpracovat přijetí této tvorby finskou kritikou. Během svého pobytu ve Finsku v období září - prosinec 2004 jsem věnoval maximální úsilí shromáždění co největšího počtu recenzí, jejichž seznam je rovněž dílčím výsledkem této práce. Množství kritických ohlasů na určité dílo i dokresluje zájem recenzentů o něj. Vzhledem k velkému počtu získaných recenzí jsem se nemohl v této práci podrobněji zmínit o všech. Proto jsem vybral ty kritiky, které seznamují čtenáře s daným dílem podrobněji a posuzovanou knihu hodnotí více do hloubky.
