Retinal nerve fiber layer measurement in patients with Alzheimer's disease
Kasl, Zdeněk ; Jirásková, Naďa (advisor) ; Pašta, Jiří (referee) ; Skorkovská, Šárka (referee)
Retinal nerve fiber layer measurement in patients with Alzheimer's disease The current ophthalmologist's possibilities in diagnostics of Alzheimer's disease Alzheimer disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia syndrome and mild cognitive impairment. To enroll the disease most securely there are used so called biomarkers using evidence of changed brain metabolism by pozitron emission tomography (PET) and in cerebrospinal fluid or the brain's structure magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). These methods are expensive, organisationally and temporally challenging and burdening for the patients. According to that reasons we are still seeking for alternative attitudes suitable for early diagnosis. The evaluation of thickness of retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) which is well accessible to examination through optical aparatus of the eye could be one of the options. The aim of our work was to present current knowledges about Alzheimer's disease targeting relations of Alzheimer's disease and an ophthalmological finding. In the next part of this paper we introduce the retinal nerve fiber layer measurement by optical coherence tomography (OCT) as a potential diagnostics method by screening of patients with Alzheimer's disease and to present our results measured in our cohort of patients. The studied cohort...

Flaps transmissions in surgeries of basal cell carcinomas of eye lids Purpose: The main target of the dissertation is to evaluate our own sample of patients, and by analysis of the monitored parameters confirm the effectiveness and possibilities of the local skin flaps advance in dealing with defects after excisions of basal cell carcinomas of the eyelids and periorbital area. Specifically, in the case of defects for which it is not possible to use a range of simple suture wounds. The aim was to compare the results of surgical procedures performed either by the local rotary flaps or free flaps. Methods: The sample consisted of 133 patients with basal cell carcinoma, which claimed covering defect by skin flaps. In 108 cases, local rotary flap in defect has been used and in 25 cases transfer of the tissue into the defect by free flap. In the group of rotary flaps was in 6 cases simultaneously transplanted part of the tarsal plate cartilage of the ear auricle and in 2 patients a surgical procedure multi flap movements was used. The follow up period in both groups was 2 years. Results: Rate of recurrence within 2 years for excision 2 mm safety rim was 5.3%. Patients with recurrence have a significantly larger surface excision (p = 0.01) and lobe (P = 0.004). Recurrences are significantly more frequent...
The treatment modification of progressive kretoconus using the corneal collagen cross-linking with riboflavin and UVA irradiation

SOUHRN Modifikace léčby progredujícího keratokonu zesíťováním kolagenu rohovky pomocí riboflavinu a UVA záření. Úvod: Cílem mé práce je porovnání modifikace léčby progredujícího keratokonu zesíťováním kolagenu rohovky pomocí riboflavinu a UVA záření. Metodika: Soubor retrospektivní studie zahrnuje celkem 35 očí 28 pacientů, kteří podstoupili na našem pracovišti corneal cross-linking. Soubor tvoří dvě skupiny. Skupina A zahrnuje 15 očí s abrazí epitelu rohovky v dolní polovině velikosti 8 mm.
Posterior lamellar keratoplasty
Studený, Pavel ; Dotřelová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Pašta, Jiří (referee) ; Filipec, Martin (referee)
110 9. SUMMARY Introduction The endothelial dysfunction and related corneal oedema with decreased transparency id still the main indication for keratoplasty. Method of posterior lamellar keratoplasty, which is popular in oftalmology in last few years, is suitable method because we exchange just the affected part of the cornea. Nowadays there are more surgical ways and modalities of the technique, but the best way has not been established yet. Purpose Purpose of our study was: to evaluate and analyze the efficacy of new technique of lamella preparation, to evaluate new method of lamela implantation and to analyse anatomical outcomes in experiment and clinical outcomes in practice. Materials and methods Group 1 involves 71 eyes of 55 patients, who underwent posterior lamellar keratoplasty with implantation of a hybrid lamella DMEK-S using a hydroimplantation. In group 2 were enrolled 27 eyes of 22 patients, who underwent posterior lamellar keratoplasty with implantation of a hybrid lamella DMEK-S using glide. In the postoperative period, we evaluated corrected and uncorrected visual acuity and corneal endothelial density. We analyzed and compared clinical outcomes of both groups and we focused especially on the method of implantation. Student t test and Bonferroni test were used for all statistical analysis....

Over the years of 2000 trough 2003 I had worked at two Centers of Ophthalmology in USA. During my fellowship at Center for Reaserch on Ocular Therapeutics and Biodevices, Storm Eye Institute, Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, South Carolina and at John A. Moran Eye Center University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah, I had worked as a member of Apple Korps team on the analyses of four various hydrofilic acrylic intraocular lenses (Hydroview H60M, SC60B-OUV, Aqua Sense a MemoryLens). These explanted IOLs were sent to our Centers from the Ophthalmology Clinics from all over the world due to their opacification. Since the year 2005, after my return from the USA, as an ophthalmologist of Eye Clinic F.D. Roosevelt Hospital, Postgraduate Medical School in Banska Bystrica, I continued working on the analyses of explanted IOLs in close cooperation with above specified US Centers as well as with at the time freshly established European Center BERI in Berlin. Analyses of 7 opacificated IOLs (3 MemoryLens, 1 Aqua Sense, 1 Sofcryl, 1 Oculentis and 1 Acrysof ) was performed at the Eye Clinic in Banska Bystrica. Using examination methods (such as gross macroscopic and microscopic analyses, histochemical staining using Alizarin red and von Kossa method, Scanning electron microscopy -SEM and Electron...
