How to write transcultural literary history?

A publication How to write a transcultural literary history? contains selected contributions from the international conference held on 15th - 16th November 2018 by the Group for Research on Czech-German Intercultural Relations in the Bohemian Lands in the Institute of Czech Literature of the ASCR. The conference focused on the theoretical and methodological issues of writing the history of several literary cultures in different languages that coexisted in the Bohemian lands. It includes contributions concerning medieval literary production, the exposed “long” 19th century to the first half of the 20th century, as well as a number of problem areas (translation, cultural transfer, periodization, multilingualism, canon, regionalism, confessionalism) and theoretical and methodological approaches (postcolonial studies, transcultural theory, new historicism). In addition to the scholarly intent, this collection also seeks to stimulate further debates on the form of future literary-historical synthesis of literatures of Bohemian Lands across disciplines - Czech studies, German studies and other philologies, as well as cultural science or social and political history.

Heritage Language and Basic Czech Vocabulary

Diplomová práce se zabývá základní slovní zásobou standardní češtiny ve vztahu mluvčím češtiny jako zd d ného jazyka. Jedná se o druhou generaci mluvčích češtiny, kte í vyr stali v N mecku, konkrétn v ezn a okolí. Cílem práce je identifikovat oblasti základní slovní zásob češtiny, které si uvedení mluvčí neosvojili p i ne ízené akvizici Teoretická část práce v první ad vysv tluje pojmy zd d ný jazyk, mluvčí migračním pozadím, nedokonalé osvojení jazyka a základní slovní zásoba s ohledem na né mluvčí. Dále na základ zahraniční odborné literatury popisuje problematiku vymezení základní slovní zásoby a tyto poznatky aplikuje na češtinu. T žišt m teoretické části práce je vymezení aktivní a pasivní slovní zásoby češtiny a její rozsah a základní slovní zásobu češtiny je nahlíženo jak z frekvenčního, tak z komunikačn pragmatického pohledu. Pro účel tohoto výzkum k výb ru základní slovní zásoby následn zvolen frekvenční p ístup s využitím Českého národního korpusu. Empirická část práce popisuje experimentální výzkum, ve kterém byla zkoumána aktivní i pasivní slovní zásoba a schopnost mluvčích češtiny jako zd d ného jazyka používat synonyma. Z výzkumu vychází, že tito mluvčí mají osvojené p ibližn čty i p tiny základní slovní zásoby standardní češtiny. Mezi nejobtížn jší slova pro tyto mluvčí pat í tzv. "faux amis"...

The Language management in big multinational companies of German origin in the Czech Republik

Given the international character of their staff and economic operations in general, multinational companies of German origin in the Czech Republic work in at least three languages: Czech, English and German. This thesis is based on ethnographic data from companies of this type, gathered using qualitative methods, primarily interviews and participant observation. Applying Language Management Theory (Neustupný, Jernudd, Nekvapil) the language situation of two particular companies is explored. With respect to the macro-social level (organized management) the companies conduct multilingualism management, in which the object of their language policy is institutional multilingualism, or the establishment of the position of certain languages and the guidelines for their use. On the micro-social level, the individual staff members conduct language management by applying certain communicative strategies. This study describes the emic perspective of the employees, who in their discourse on multilingualism construct identities, both their own individual identities and those of the company. Particular attention is devoted to the translators and interpreters, whose position is a specific one in respect of the language management and due to the national and professional identities in the companies.
