Alois Vocásek (1896 - 2003) The life story of the last Czechoslovak legionnaire

The thesis is a biography of the last member of the Czechoslovak legions Alois Vocásek (1896 - 2003). His long life story is presented chronologically. The author describes the period of his childhood and adolescence, participation in the First World War, service in the Czechoslovak legions, life in Czechoslovakia under German occupation and after the defeat of Nazism. The greatest attention is devoted to his service in the Czechoslovak foreign army and his political positions during the occupation. These two historical stages form the main part of the master's work. Life story is confronted with archival materials.

Sources and Consequences of the Slovakian Political Crisis in 1947

The three years lasting postwar period in Czechoslovak history, sometimes denoted as the "Third Republic", still deserves attention of the historical research in the Czech Republic. The 1947 autumn political crisis in Slovakia is undoubtly one of the most important issues of that historical period. The aim of this thesis is to point out the sources, the process and consequences of this political crisis that is nowadays recognized as a "litmus paper" of the following "coup d'etat". First parts of the thesis analyse the collapse of the nondemocratic regime of the Slovak Republic as well as the framework of the political system of Czechoslovakia and its main features. The following part deals with circumstances of the general elections that took place in May 1946, elections, that resulted in a quite unexpected win of the Democratic Party in the Slovak part of Czechoslovakia. The political situation in Czechoslovakia deteriorated, as the year 1947 continued. It developed into a deep political crisis in autumn, preceded by a campaign against the alleged subversive complot against the state authority. The history of Cheb after the war: life stories alongside the great events

The goal of this MA thesis lies in mapping the history of the city Cheb after the second world war with the help of narratives and press of those times. Focus is on years 1945-1950 but the thesis also contains information about the city's history until 1945. Another aspect of this thesis is the variety of newspaper specific for this region and the way it changes through the years after war. The most important themes of this thesis include evicion of Germans, changing relationships whith the USA and the Soviet Union, ascent of kommunism and reastructuraion of Cheb - all of these in connection with the city itself and the memories of narrators. These themes are submited within the stories of individual narrators and spulemented by citations from newspaper.

Political Prisoners of Jáchymov. Oral History in Theory and Practice

The aim of this doctoral thesis combines the possibilities of oral history in theory and practice. The first part prepares the field for delivering results of my research which is targeted at mapping and understanding recent history using oral histories of twelve survivors of communist régime imprisoned in the 1950s in the Jachymov district. At first, I demonstrate the usage of oral history and related thinking about it abroad and in the Czech context. I deliver the empirical material of this work using this method. It consists from life stories and personal testimonies of former political prisoners who have been organised in the Confederation of Political Prisoners after 1989 in the Czech Republic. Apart from methodological collection, analysis and interpretation of their life stories I point at further processing and introduction of such a research to the wide and expert public. I believe in the premise that personal testimonies of narrators represent a contribution to understanding "small history and its human aspect - here dealing with the Czechoslovak political persecution in 1950s. I also describe the evolution of my research project which I managed to enlarge and link to other academic work of my PhD. colleagues. Prague Scouts during the normalization era - Memories of Scout Leaders

This paper focuses on the era of Normalization, specifically on history of the scouting in Prague in years 1968 - 1970. It describes history of the movement in this period and, through the method of oral history, explores main approaches of scout leaders regarding the end of the organisation. It searches, with the help of the concept of collective memory, for the main reasons of different views and expectations, including their roots in the history and future consequences. In the end it also pursues individual stories of scout functionaries on the background of big history. Origin and Development of Czech casinos from the croupier perspective

Thesis using the oral history of attempts based on interviews with dealers to characterize the emergence and development of casinos in the country, focusing on the period 1990-1999. It will further seek to analyze croupiers look for changes in their profession during the nineties, it tries to find out how the company viewed these devices and how their perceptions changed over time. This research will also try to approximate the conditions under which the casino could arise in which sites are placed among these devices, as over time changed their level and quality of services offered and what kind of casino guests attended. Another objektive of this work is to find out what people in the nineties to post dealer reported what they had to comply with the conditions and how their level in the nineties changed.
