Possibilities of using elements of Waldorf and Montessori pedagogy in the teaching of geography in current schools

The bachelor thesis examines which elements of Waldorf and Montessori pedagogy geography teachers utilize in their teaching at mainstream schools and further identifies potential barriers to the utilization of these elements. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part is first devoted to the definition of the alternative school. It briefly discusses the origin and development of alternative schools, their characteristics, functions and typologies. This section also includes information on two selected types of alternative schools - Waldorf and Montessori. Attention is paid to the characteristics of the main features of these schools, their development, expansion and the organisation of teaching. The main elements and principles that could bring enrichment to traditional geography teaching are described. In the practical part, an investigation is carried out using the method of semi-structured interviews with selected teachers. The information gathered is analysed to identify the barriers to the inclusion of Waldorf and Montessori elements in geography teaching in mainstream schools, as well as the elements used by teachers. Inquiry-based education focused on traffic noise pollution

The bachelor thesis focuses on teaching the impacts of traffic in grammar schools. Specifically, it addresses one of the leading negative impacts, namely noise pollution, which is a worsening problem as the volume of traffic continues to grow. The aim of the thesis is to create and implement a lesson on this topic using an inquiry-based teaching approach. Pupils will learn how to measure approximate noise levels, understand its impacts, and devise a plan to improve the situation. The lesson will be pilot tested by pupils from the Secondary School of Surveying and the Geographical Grammar School in Prague. The theoretical part introduces the issue of noise pollution in more detail, describes inquiry-based teaching and its integration into lessons. The practical part provides teaching materials and a thorough methodology, that serves as a guide for teachers who would like to apply the lesson in their classes. Subsequently, the course of the lesson at the Geographical Grammar School is described, along with reflections from both the teacher's and students' perspectives. Based on assessment of the students' knowledge before and after the lesson, they appeared to have a better understanding of the issue. Analysis of the landscape potential of the Novohradské Hory for field teaching of geography

The study examines the potential of the Novohradské Mountains for field geography education and identifies sites suitable for demonstrating selected geographical phenomena and processes. In the theoretical part, it first addresses the theme of landscape interpretation and the concept of "sense of place". This is followed by a literature review that processes the general characteristics of the Novohradské Mountains. Based on these characteristics, the main phenomena of the area are selected, based on which suitable locations for teaching are subsequently chosen. The aim is to assess the potential of the area for conducting field education.

Evaluation of the landscape potential of the central Elbe region for outdoor geographical education

The bachelor thesis identifies the main geographical themes that can be used to characterize the defined area in the Central Polabí region. The next phase of the thesis deals with the identification of specific exceptional locations where these themes can be best demonstrated. Finally, sites suitable for field geography teaching are selected. The theoretical part is first devoted to the definition of field education and the involvement of field education in the study of geography. Subsequently, the concepts of landscape interpretation and Sense of place are explained and used in the research part. In the next chapter, a characterisation of the defined area of the Central Polabie region in terms of relief, climate, water, vegetation, nature conservation and settlement is made using maps. In the practical part, content analyses of geography textbooks, mapy.cz portal and Vlastivědný zpravodaj Polabí are carried out in order to identify the main geographical themes and specific localities. The obtained information is analysed in order to select the most important topics and locations. Geographical patterns of reptile distribution in Czechia

This bachelor thesis named Geographical patterns of reptile distribution in Czechia compares current and potential distribution of reptile species, which can be found in the Czech nature. In the taxonomic hierarchy the class Reptiles is not in the spotlight of science research. However this group of animals has the lowest biodiversity compared to other vertebrates. The first part of the thesis shows reptile species of Czechia and literature research in methods being used to potential species distribution modelling. The practical part of the thesis shows a modelling for potential distribution of reptiles by using observation data with duration between the years 2000 and 2023. The maximum entropy method was used. Results demonstrate potential localities with physical geographical conditions as similar as localities where species truly observe and could be observed. Light pollution around Vlašim

This work is focused on the measurement of light pollution in the vicinity of the central Bohemian city of Vlašim. The research part is devoted to familiarization with the issue of light pollution. Different types of artificial light sources are discussed, the impact on humans and ecosystems is mentioned. The Sky Quality Meter was used to measure the brightness of the sky at 11 locations around Vlašim. Measurements at each site were made to 8 cardinal directions and at three different heights above the horizon. The measurement results were combined with visual observation and the largest sources of light pollution in the area were identified, which include the industrial area in the southeast of the city, the arms store Sellier & Bellot, a.s. and the Sapeli door store. Evaluation of pupils performance in geography at four-years high school

The diploma thesis deals with a deeper understanding of the professional beliefs of geography teachers in the area of evaluating the performance of pupils in the teaching of geography. On the basis of a qualitative investigation, answers two research questions were sought: (1) How do high school geography teachers acquire the competence to evaluate students in their teaching? (2) Which factors influence the teacher's way of evaluating students? The work structure has a traditional layout. The first part frames the selected issue and subsequent research in a more general context. In addition to the explanation of the essence of the starting theory, i.e. the theory of information dissemination, key concepts - professional beliefs and the very competence (competence) of the assessment are defined here. In the practical part, the work focuses on the results of semi-structured interviews with 10 geography teachers in four-year grammar schools. The responses of the respondents were analysed (coded, categorized) in order to answer the research question. Water retention in the Úhlavka catchment area

Water retention in the landscape is a very current topic these days. Thanks to a warming climate, we have to deal with hydrological extremes, erosion, or accelerated water runoff. If we choose to improve the retention capacity of the landscape, we can help transform flood waves, slow down runoff, and mitigate soil water erosion. In the agricultural landscape, we solve the mentioned problems by combining near natural measures and technical measures. This master thesis focuses on water retention in the Úhlavka basin, which is located in western Bohemia and forms a tributary of the Mže River. In the theoretical part, the physical-geographic properties of the area of interest and the rainfall-runoff process are characterized. A literature research is also carried out regarding retention, its components, and the factors influencing it. Furthermore, the individual types of measures that can be used to improve the state of retention in the landscape are also listed. The practical part offers a process of choosing a specific area for proposals in the Úhlavka basin. The Olešná basin was chosen, where the majority of the land cover is agricultural and, thanks to its geomorphological properties, it was also included in the list of critical areas. The usability of the educational game for the cartography education in lower-secondary schools

The presented thesis focuses on the usability testing of the educational game Map of an imaginary island for teaching cartography, which was created by the same author in 2020. The work also briefly introduces the game concept, including a description of its individual components and their functions. To improve clarity, the thesis firstly reviews the literature related to educational methods, particularly didactic games, then the issue of usability, its significance, and application in product testing is presented. The research section of the thesis aims to subject the educational game to usability testing, examining the perspectives of both pupils and teachers on its use and identifying the most significant shortcomings, which are then addressed in a separate chapter. The research was conducted using the two most common methods used in general product testing, i.e., questionnaire surveys and interviews with users. The research results showed that the game is a welcome addition to teaching, with rules that are understandable for both pupils and teachers, evoking a pleasant feeling in them, and despite its gaming nature, maintaining a clear didactic purpose. Water scarcity in the world and in the Czechia

I used mainly research and compilation methods in the theoretical part of the bachelor thesis. The water scarcity is very actual issue in the era of climate change. Unfortunately, in my opinion it doesn't get that much attention in public space. The first part of thesis summarizes the causes and consequences of water scarcity, there are examples of bad water usage including ways of solution. The goal is popularize the topic of drought and water scarcity and help to implement these attractive topics to the school curriculum. The chapter about water scarcity in the Czechia is mainly focused on drought and measures to eliminate it. We have to realize, that our water comfort is not eternal. Episodes of drought are occured more frequently also in central Europe now. The practical part of thesis contains one-day lesson programme about water scarcity and hydrometeorological extremes for 8th - 9th grade of primary school.
