International migration and the gender
Koropecká, Markéta ; Janská, Eva (advisor) ; Schovánková, Soňa (referee)
My bachelor thesis explores the connection between international migration and gender. Gender, defined as a social, not a biological term, has a huge impact on the migration process. Statistics and expert studies that have been gender sensitive since 1970s demonstrate that women form half of the amount of the international migrants depending on the world region and representing a wide range of the kinds of international migration: family formation and reunification, labour migration, illegal and forced migration. Women and children represent the most threatened group of migrants; in various phases of their migration they often face discrimination, and emotional and physical abuse. To give a solution to these problems it is necessary for the STUDIES to pay more attention to the specific needs of both genders and the problems they both have to face. It is then possible to adjust the politics of migration and the activity of various non-governmental organizations which deal with the migrants more efficiently. Therefore, it is necessary to develop the studies of the connection between migration and gender further, and fill in gaps in gender sensitive studies. Key words: gender, gender-sensitive research, women, international migrantion

Cibulková, Tereza ; Janská, Eva (advisor) ; Uherek, Zdeněk (referee)
5 Abstract This final thesis, Czech diaspora policy, its dimensions and international context, is focused on the diaspora policy of Czechia towards the population living abroad. It consists of several parts. The first part introduces the thesis with the key concepts that appear in it. The theoretical part will introduce the concept of diaspora policies. It will then briefly summarise the history and current situation of emigration from the territory of Czechia, the development of Czech diaspora policy in the European context and the activities of the main institutions dedicated to the diaspora. In the practical part, I will introduce different approaches to comparing diaspora policies and I will analyse the diaspora policy of Czechia using the multiple correspondence analysis schemes introduced by Ragazzi (2014) in his article. Based on this analysis, the policies of Czechia will be evaluated. The thesis will be enriched by the results of interviews with representatives of main institutions involved in diaspora policy making. The thesis uses data collected during projects funded by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic and the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic. Based on the findings, we can summarise that Czechia is a state which has granted many rights to its population abroad. It is typical for...
Tourism trends in SIDS before and during the pandemic of COVID-19. Case study St. Martin - the Caribbean.
Mráz, Tomáš ; Vágner, Jiří (advisor) ; Janská, Eva (referee)
Small Island Developing States (SIDS) are a specific group of tourism destinations that are often economically dependent on the tourism industry. This paper examines the development of tourism in SIDS in the Caribbean before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, in which tourism was significantly restricted. The theoretical concept of the tourism area life cycle identifies the developmental stages of tourism in destinations, which, however, can be greatly affected by the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The island of St. Martin was chosen for the research at the micro-regional level, where arrival numbers, activities and behaviors of tourists and day visitors were further examined. Key words: tourism, Caribbean, SIDS, Tourism Area Life Cycle, COVID-19, St. Martin

DEVELOPMENT OF IMMIGRATION POLICY AND IMMIGRATION IN AUSTRALIA
Žáková, Samantha ; Janská, Eva (advisor) ; Pavelková, Lenka (referee)
The main aim of the thesis is to describe the development of immigration policy and immigration in Australia since the first colonization of the country up to the present. Individual waves since 1778 are analyzed, i.e. from the colonization of British settlers and immigration associated with gold rush to non-British immigration after the World War II. The work describes the shift from discriminatory White Australia policy which was abandoned mainly after Migration Act 1958 to multicultural policy. There were two different approaches to multiculturalism: assimilation of immigrants during the 1950s and their integration in the 1960s. Gaugh Whitlam government finally abolished the White Australia policy in 1973 replacing both previous positions with multicultural policy. Governments of prime ministers and changes of their approaches to multicultural policies since 1970s up to the present are discussed. Current migration and humanitarian program as well as special Department of Immigration and visa system are also part of this work.
Vietnam close by and far away. Children of Vietnamese descent in Czech Republic form the perspective of transnationalism.
Svobodová, Andrea ; Janská, Eva (advisor) ; Baar, Vladimír (referee) ; Šatava, Leoš (referee)
This dissertation is based on a narrative analysis of eighteen life biographies of children of Vietnamese descent in Czech Republic. It shows that these young people lives are embedded in a "transnational social space", which spans between two geographical regions of Vietnam and Czech Republic, and which leaves them exposed to a set of social expectations, cultural values and patterns of human interaction, that are shaped by more than one political, economic and social system. It also describes how these people, through multiple connected social networks and social relationships, transform cultural practices, interpretations, experiences and identities, which deconstructs the idea of integrity between place, identity and culture. Although the primary aim of the work is to analyse how children of Vietnamese operate in transnationalized social and cultural contexts, transnational practices, such as homeland visits, kinship ties and sending remittances are also being explored. In doing so the children of Vietnamese migrants are neither perceived as "existing in vacuum" nor are their identities described as "deterritorialized". The work pays also attention to the question how their lives and identities are shaped on the backdrop of discursive fields and power relationships in particular localities. Key...
