Formánková, Helena ; Lomová, Olga (advisor) ; Hudeček, Jiří (referee)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to reconstruct activities of Czech missionary Josef Zeman in China in the beginning of twentieth century. It's based mostly on Zeman's letters, which he was sending to his friends. These letters were later on published in a book. The first part introduces the characteristics of the preserved sources and Zeman's biography. The next part is focused on missionary policies in China of that time, clarifying problems, which missions had to face and deal with and the changes, which were happening during Zeman's mission. The focus of this thesis is based on an analysis of Zeman's letters and the description of his missionary work for French Lazarists in Chinese countryside in Jiangxi province. The main emphasis is on Zeman's own view, his own opinions and placing it in a historic and a social frame. This thesis contains a dictionary and an attachment with archive photos.
