Role of a Deaf Assistant and a Deaf Teacher in Primary Schools for Pupils with Hearing Impairment in Czech Language Lessons

The thesis deals with the roles of the deaf assistant and deaf teacher in a primary school for pupils with hearing impairment in the Czech language lessons. It can be notionally divided into two parts. The first part is dedicated to the theoretical education of the deaf, mainly to presentation of bilingual education and its application in contemporary education in our country and abroad. Thesis discusses the Czech sign language and the differences between it and the Czech language in the context of teaching Czech as a second language for the deaf. Adequate space is devoted to deaf assistant and deaf teacher and their work in the classroom in cooperation with hearing teacher. The second notional part contains analyzed data and results interpretation of the research, which was carried out through questionnaires and participant observation in classrooms. The outputs of the research showed that from view of respondents is presence of deaf teaching staff important for many different reasons. Involvement of deaf teacher in the learning process emerged almost equal as the participation of a hearing teacher. Participation of deaf assistant depends more on the individual agreement with the hearing teacher. The pairs had divided competencies in different ways.
Czech language at primary schools for children with hearing impairment

TITLE: Czech language at primary schools for children with hearing impairment SUMMARY: The topic of graduation thesis is education of students with hearing impairment, focusing on education in the Czech language. The thesis focuses on the recent history of education of students with hearing impairment, but also on the current situation in special education surdopedics and the current legal standards that define it. Sufficient space is devoted to the central theme of the thesis- the Czech language and its teaching. This thesis presents and comments the data that was obtained through quantitative research, which was implemented in four Czech primary schools for children with hearing impairment. In the investigation, we used methods of questioning (questionnaire for students and questionnaire for Czech language and literature teacher) and methods of observation (structured observation during the hours of Czech language and literature) on the 2nd stage of these schools. The aim of this thesis was the most complex mapping of Czech language and literature- in terms of modes of communication, staffing of teaching, used textbooks and teaching aids, and in terms of views of our respondents in the Czech language and literature as well as their opinion of the Czech language as such. Thesis dealt with deaf assistants who work in primary school for pupils with hearing impairment. The aim was to find out their benefits for pupils with hearing impairment. The first chapters include introduction to the topic of hearing impairment, cultural minority the Deaf, development and education of students with hearing disabilities, focusing on the personality of the deaf assistant and his contribution in the educational process. Another part of the thesis deals with the research whose objective was to describe the influence of deaf assistant at a primary school for pupils with hearing impairment within the teaching process. The survey was carried out by observation in the classroom, where the deaf assistant worked primarily with the hearing teacher. As is clear from the survey results, the presence of a deaf assistant at a primary school for pupils with hearing impairment is of great importance for the development and education of pupils with hearing impairment in many ways.
