The Ideal City Nitra: The Klokočina Central Zone
Ďurčovič, Martin ; Csanda, Milan (referee) ; Kratochvíl, Jan (advisor)
The research objective of my diploma thesis is to identify and examine the potential of the central zone of the Klokočina housing estate in Nitra City through a spatial study. I work with the urban development concept proposed in the city zoning plan, which I thoroughly analyse and further develop. The main emphasis of the work is on creating a quality public space and promoting socially sustainable ways of future building development. I design new urban spaces and the subsequent urban building structure that shapes the new urban spaces. The proposed spatial study can serve the city of Nitra as a quality reference material for decision-making in the territory and spatial planning, which provides sustainable urban development.
The Ideal City Žilina: Conversion of a former railway yard
Čuláková, Michaela ; Likavčanová, Lenka (referee) ; Kratochvíl, Jan (advisor)
The subject of the thesis is the territory in Žilina city. It belongs to the Slovakian railways and has until now served as an unused area of the track. The current reconstruction of the railways will create a free area of almost forty-five hectares ready for conversion and new use. After the reconstruction, a railway line passes through the territory. The new use and structure respond to this condition. There will also be a new train stop on the route. The territory is the confluence of three rivers, the Váh, Kysuca, and Rajčianka, which is surrounded by greenery, and it was important to keep this natural character as much as possible. The large area of the territory has the prerequisites for the creation of a new urban district within walking distance of the city center. At the same time, the mix and diversity of land use support shorter walking distances and thus the support of non-motorized transport. An active waterfront, new public spaces, housing and employment opportunities, proximity, and connection of suburban areas have the potential to lighten the existing city center.
The Building on Obilní trh
Čuláková, Michaela ; Ježková, Tereza (referee) ; Kratochvíl, Jan (advisor)
The bachelor thesis focuses on the design of a modern and transparent office building in Brno on the Grain Market. Due to the proximity of the community garden, Špilberk and the incompleteness of the building of the environmental department in Brno, the Institute for the Environment was chosen. The building provides also catering and accommodation for guest collaborators, along with areas for office promotion, which include a lecture hall and a gallery. The shape of the building closes the southern part of the Grain Market and thanks to the vertical garden that forms the facade contributes to improving the microclimate.
Annen Gate
Illéš, Ján ; Eichlerová, Eva (referee) ; Kopáčik, Gabriel (advisor)
A multifunctional city block is designed for the currently empty place in Brno, on the corner of Pekarská and Anenská streets. The urban, architectural and material-spatial solution tries to respect the scale and cultural-historical context of the place. The proposed main function of housing is enlivened by additional functions of administration and trade and services on the ground floor. The corner is an important compositional point and the proposed round and glazed shape of the building will form a visual dominant on the view from Pekarská Street. In the city block, the inner space of the courtyard is created, in which the historical heritage of the retaining wall of the hill on which the church once stood is presented. The passage through the city block is possible in the route of the former street U sv. Anny. The lack of green spaces in the courtyard is compensated by the creation of green roofs for residents and users. The architectural expression of the townhouse tries to follow the traditions of modernism, typical for the city of Brno.
